The Special Olympics Alberta Summer Games get under way Friday in St. Albert for more than 1,000 athletes and coaches. The opening ceremonies at Servus Credit Union Place go from 6 to 8:30 p.m. and are open to the public. Shaw TV will also provide live coverage.
The sports schedule is as follows:
Fowler Athletic Park: Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 2:15 p.m.
Fountain Park Recreation Centre: Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
St. Albert Bowling Centre: Friday, noon to 2:30 p.m., Saturday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Gateway Lanes in Edmonton: Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to noon.
Servus Place: Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The St. Albert Soccer Association kicks off its annual Tournament of Champions community league finals Thursday night. The action wraps up with Sunday’s medal finals.
The tournament features 10 divisions, from U12 to U16 boys and girls, plus the U10 developmental league. Games will be played at the Riel Park fields, the Riel Recreation Park artificial turf and Liberton, Langholm and Eldorado fields. Schedules are online at www.stalbertsoccer.com.
