St. Albert teams scrum down this week in the Edmonton Rugby Union.

Tonight’s kick-off times are 7 p.m. for the second division women (1-1) against the host Lep/Tigers (2-0) and the U21 Dolphins (0-2) against the Strathcona Druids (2-0) at Lynn Davies Rugby Park.

Friday the third division men (4-1) battle the Crude (1-2) in Leduc at 7 p.m.

The St. Albert Midget A Zone Rams are in Stony Plain for Thursday’s opening playoff round in the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council.

Ball drop is 8:30 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Titans at Glen Hall Centennial Arena.

The playoffs continue Saturday for the Rams at Sherwood Park Arena against the Parkland Posse (8-3-2) or Edmonton Warriors (3-10) at 9 a.m. in the B bracket or 10:30 a.m. in the A bracket.

The Titans (6-6-1) and Rams (5-5-3) are seeded second and third, respectively, in the four-team playoffs.

The Rams beat the Titans in consecutive games 5-4 and 7-4 before losing 8-7 last week to end the regular season.

Saturday’s A bracket winner advances to Monday’s final at 7 p.m. at Kinex Arena and the B bracket winner plays Saturday’s A bracket losing team at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at George Hughes Arena for a berth in the final.

The 26th annual Sir George Simpson School Triathlon starts 1 p.m. Friday at Grosvenor pool.

Last year’s competition featured 195 participants for the swim (six lengths), 1.5-kilometre bike and 1.2-km run.

Sixty-five student marshals and nine St. Albert Superstore adult community event marshals also assisted in the SGS event.

SGS teacher Diana Magee has been the driving force behind the triathlon since its inception.

Saturday the St. Albert Stars host the Lloydminster Vandals in the Alberta Football League.

Kickoff is 5 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.

The Stars are 3-0 and the Vandals are 3-1 in the nine-team standings.

Last weekend the Stars blanked the Drillers (1-3) 47-0 in Grande Prairie.

Previous victories were 56-0 over the Calgary Wolfpack (0-4) and 44-10 over the Airdrie Irish.

Last year the Stars finished 6-5 overall after losing 43-23 to the Central Alberta Buccaneers in the semifinals.

The Stars are competing in their fifth AFL season.
