It’s first versus worst today in the Alberta Cup fixtures between St. Albert and the Lep/Tigers. Kickoff is 2 p.m. at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

In the men’s first division standings St. Albert is perfect in four matches while averaging 38 points per win. The Lep/Tigers have been outscored 185 to 41 in their four losses.

The firsts are coming off a monumental come-from-behind 35-12 road victory against the reigning provincial champion Calgary Saints (3-1).

Last year’s pennant winners and provincial finalists close out the month with games against the Calgary Saracens (1-3) June 13 and Calgary Hornets (2-2) June 20 at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club and a June 27 tilt with the Druids (1-3) at Ellerslie.

Meanwhile, flanker Brett Kelly was left off the final U20 Canada roster for the IRB Junior World Championship, starting this weekend in Fukuoka, Japan. The only Albertan on the 26-man team is lock Josh Schlebach of the Calgary Irish. Four flankers were picked for worlds.

Kelly, 20, was part of the U20 Canadian squad of 30 players that toured New Zealand in March. In 2006 he toured England with the U17 national team and was named Canada’s top forward.

The deadline to enter the 17th annual St. Albert Kids of Steel Triathlon is Sunday. Visit www.members.shaw.ca/kidsofsteel/ to register for the June 14 event at Fountain Park Recreation Centre.

As of Wednesday, 145 males and females ages six to 19 had signed up as individuals or as a team. Last year 295 athletes competed in the Kids of Steel, which also doubled as the Zone 5 and 6 qualifier for the 2008 Alberta Summer Games.

Kids of Steel triathlons are designed to offer kids and young adults an opportunity to participate in the sport in a positive environment. Emphasis is on fun and safety. The swim-bike-run course varies in distance according to age group.

More than 100 volunteers are needed to make the event happen. If interested in helping out, contact Tari at 460-0023 or [email protected]

Week four in the St. Albert Men’s Soccer League kicks off Sunday between Chester City, the defending division one champions, and Summit. Game time is 1 p.m. at Riel Park.

Chester and Gainer share first place with 2-0-1 records. Summit is tied for third place with the Rummies at 2-1. Last weekend Summit edged the Rummies 3-2.

Meanwhile, the rematch of the 2008 final between Chester and the Rummies is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Grosvenor. Chester captured its first playoff cup in team history with the 3-1 win. The Rummies were playing in their 15th straight final as 13-time playoff champions.
