The St. Albert Rugby Football Club hosts the Nor’Westers in today’s doubleheader.
Kickoff times are 2 p.m. for the third division men and 4 p.m. for the Alberta Cup premier men.
The SARFC thirds (2-1) are ranked third in the Edmonton Rugby Union table and the Nor’Westers will play their first match of the season.
Last weekend, the thirds lost 48-12 to the first-place Axmen (3-0) in Edson and the SARFC first division team, winner of three consecutive Labatt’s Cup provincial championships, dropped a 13-12 decision to the Rams (1-2) in Calgary. The firsts (1-1) led 7-3 at halftime.
The Nor’Westers (3-0) are the top team in the Alberta Cup table and last year in the Ken Ann Cup north final lost 41-38 to the firsts.
The Nor’Westers were one of only two teams to beat the firsts last year, 38-36 with a converted try on the last play of the match after trailing by 12 with about 10 minutes remaining.
Meanwhile, the Alberta Women’s Premier team scrums down today at the Lep/Tigers (2-1) at 2 p.m.
SARFC (0-2-1) fell 48-24 to the Saracens (2-1) in Calgary last weekend.
The season debut for SARFC was the 59-12 drubbing by the visiting Lep/Tigers.
The St. Albert Midget A Zone Rams are back on the floor next week after a break in the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council schedule.
The Rams (4-4-1) play the Edmonton Warriors (3-5) Monday at 7:30 p.m. at George Hughes Arena and Wednesday host the first-place Parkland Posse (7-3) at 8:30 p.m. at Kinex Arena.
The last game for the Rams was the 10-6 loss to the Posse on May 25 in Stony Plain.
