The Mac’s tournament starts Friday for the St. Albert Slash in Calgary.
The midget AAA female hockey team plays the Northern Cougars of Prince George, B.C., at 11:30 a.m. at Community Arena Gold.
Saturday the Slash face-off against the Westman (Man.) Wildcats at 8:30 p.m. at the Max Bell Centre.
Sunday’s game against the Peace Country Storm of Grande Prairie goes at 1 p.m. at Max Bell.
The last round-robin game is Monday against the Swift Current Wildcats at 10:30 a.m. at Max Bell.
The Dec. 31 semifinals at Max Bell feature the top team in the three pools and a wild-card team.
The final is Jan. 1 at noon at the Saddledome.
The Slash won the Mac’s Cup in 2009.

The Slash are 14-7-5 for third place in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League entering the Christmas break.
Six of the 10 league teams are competing at the 15-team Mac’s tournament.
The sixth annual St. Albert Winter Classic Tournament starts Saturday at 8:15 a.m. at Servus Credit Union Place.
The 49-game tournament features six novice 1 and six novice 2 development league teams and eight atom development league teams.
Monday’s finals at Go Auto Arena are 3 p.m. for novice 1, 4:30 p.m. for novice 2 and 6 p.m. for the atoms.

Jan. 7 is the deadline to submit applications for the sixth annual John Reid Memorial Scholarship.
Individuals who played bantam AAA for the St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres after the 2004/05 season and played hockey in St. Albert for a minimum of three years are eligible to apply for the $1,000 scholarship.
Applicants must be a Canadian citizen and Alberta resident enrolled in a recognized post-secondary education institution.

The successful applicant will be announced Jan. 15 at 7:15 p.m. during the opening ceremonies of the John Reid Memorial Tournament at Go Auto Arena.
Previous winners were Liam Liston, Ryan Harrison, Brady McCorriston, Steven Woolger, Joshua Maeda and Justin Kueber.
The Reid scholarship was established by the parent group of the 2004/05 Sabres.
Donations to the scholarship fund are being accepted by the John Reid Memorial Tournament Society.
