Tonight at 6:30 p.m. the Paul Kane Blues host the Jasper Place Rebels in metro Edmonton division one women’s basketball.
The Blues are 3-0 and the Rebels are 1-1 in league play.
Last weekend the Blues finished 1-2 at the 33rd annual REB Invitational at Jasper Place High School.
The Blues beat the Bev Facey Falcons 68-49 after losses of 65-46 to the William Aberhart Orange of Calgary and 61-56 to the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Clippers.
Earlier in the month, the Blues placed third at 2-1 at the Totem Hoop Classic at Ross Sheppard High School.
The team’s 11-player roster features six returnees from the 2014 4A provincial consolation finalists.
The first home game for the St. Albert Skyhawks in metro Edmonton division two pool B men’s basketball is Thursday against the Lillian Osborne Legends.
Tip-off is 5 p.m. at the SkyDome.
The Skyhawks made their season debut Tuesday against the Memorial Marauders in Stony Plain but the score was unavailable at press time.
Last season, the Skyhawks finished 9-3 in league play after losing the division two final to the undefeated Holy Trinity Trojans and for the second year in a row lost the A and B finals in the 3A Edmonton zone elimination tournament.
The annual Lorne Akins School students versus staff charity hockey/ringette game heats up the ice Friday at Akinsdale Arena.
The fundraiser for Kinette hampers and the St. Albert Food Bank goes from 9 a.m. to noon.
Students who brought in food donations had their names entered in a draw to play on the hockey and ringette teams and they were also eligible for door prizes.
Last year the students schooled the teachers 4-4 in hockey and 6-1 in ringette.
Hall of Fame netminder Grant Fuhr will be signing his new book Friday between 6 and 7 p.m. at Costco at 1075 St. Albert Trail.
The recently released Story of a Hockey Legend, co-authored by Calgary-based sports writer Bruce Dowbiggin, chronicles the highs and lows of a career spanning the Stanley Cup-winning Edmonton Oilers’ dynasty to stops with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Buffalo Sabres, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames. The Spruce Grove product and avid golfer also recalls his suspension for substance abuse in 1990.
Fuhr’s No. 31 jersey was retired by the Oilers in 2003.
