The Wood AA tournament continues today for three St. Albert Mission ringette teams at the Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre. The U14 Mission plays Calgary 212 at 11:30 a.m. and the BVRA Wild of Winnipeg at 6:30 p.m.

The U14 Mission plays Calgary 212 at 11:30 a.m. and the BVRA Wild of Winnipeg at 6:30 p.m.

The U16 Mission skates against the Winnipeg Angels at 1 p.m. and Central Alberta Sting at 6:15 p.m.

The U19 Mission have games against the Winnipeg Angels at 8:30 a.m. and Central Alberta Sting at 2 p.m.

Friday’s scores for the Mission teams were unavailable at press time.

Sunday’s playoffs start at 7 a.m.

The Wood tournament is hosted by the Edmonton Ringette Club and features 10 U14 teams, nine U16 and nine U19 teams from across Western Canada.

The annual Edmonton Regional Open is underway at the Go Auto and Troy Murray arenas for approximately 800 skaters, including 32 from the host St. Albert Skating Centre.

The competition for skaters ranging in age from six to 22 runs 9 a.m. to 8:40 p.m. today and 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Sunday.

Sunday the St. Albert Flyers face-off against CAC United Cycle in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

Puck drop is 6:15 p.m. at Callingwood Arena.

In the north division the second-place Flyers (8-2-3) trail the undefeated SSAC Bulldogs (16-0) by 13 points and CAC (6-7) is tied for fifth.

The last game for the Flyers was Tuesday’s 6-2 victory against the last-place Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (0-11-2) at Akinsdale Arena.

Leif Mattson scored his 17th and 18th goals of the season and added two assists for 35 points in 13 games.

Jack Langenhahn also tallied twice and Andrew Palladino and Peter Corrigan notched singles.

Chris Curr (3-1-1, 3.22 GAA) stopped 28 shots for the win.

The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres skate twice in three days at Akinsdale Arena, starting Tuesday against the Spruce Grove PAC Saints in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.

Thursday the Sabres host Sherwood Park Flyers.

Game times are 7 p.m.

The Sabres (9-4-3), Flyers (9-2-3) and SSAC Southgate Lions (10-4) are battling for first place in the nitro north division and the Saints (9-5-2) are the top team in the charger north standings.

The Sabres are undefeated in seven games after their fourth straight win, 4-1 over the Canadian Athletic Club (6-7-1) Tuesday at Bill Hunter Arena.
