The annual AA tournament, hosted by the Edmonton Ringette Club, features 10 U14 teams, nine U16 and nine U19 teams from across western Canada.

The U14 Mission plays Friday against the Manitoba Magic at 8:15 a.m. and Central Alberta Sting at 2 p.m. and Saturday against Calgary 212 at 11:30 a.m. and the BVRA Wild of Winnipeg at 6:30 p.m.

The U16 Mission have games scheduled Friday against the Lower Mainland Thunder at 8:45 a.m. and Calgary Hype at 1:15 p.m. and Saturday against the Winnipeg Angels at 1 p.m. and Central Alberta Sting at 6:15 p.m.

The U19 Mission are in action Friday against Thompson-Okanagan at 8:30 a.m. and Calgary at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday against the Winnipeg Angels at 8:30 a.m. and Central Alberta Sting at 2 p.m.

Sunday’s playoffs run 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The U14 and U19 Mission teams were silver medallists at the recent Bernadette Price Memorial AA Tournament in Saskatoon.

This weekend the St. Albert Skating Centre hosts the Edmonton Regional Open at the Go Auto and Troy Murray arenas.

Approximately 800 skaters, including 32 from the St. Albert club, will perform.

The STARSkate (skills, test, achievement, recognition program through Skate Canada) competition is open to skaters from Northern Alberta, Calgary, the Yukon and Northwest Territories.

The levels include Star 1 (beginners in the competitive scene) to the advanced Star 5, plus senior bronze to gold in freeskate and interpretive events. The age range is six to 22.

The regional open goes Friday from noon to 9 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Special Olympics’ skaters will also perform Sunday from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at Troy Murray.

Sunday is the deadline to register for the inaugural Slash Alumni Event on Dec. 21, from 1:15 to 3:45 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

The event will celebrate the 11-year history of the St. Albert midget AAA female program and is another initiative through the Esso Cup Legacy Program from the 2011 nationals the Slash hosted.
