The peewee Tier 2 semifinals in the Capital District Minor Football Association kick off today for both St. Albert teams at Riel Recreation Park.
The Colts (1-6) line up against the Strathcona Raiders (2-5) at 10 a.m. and the Riders (4-3) tackle the Edmonton Black Raiders (0-7) at 12:30 p.m. Admission is $5.
Last weekend the Riders beat the Raiders 12-0 and two weeks ago the Colts lost 20-12 to Strathcona.
The Tier 2 final is next weekend.
The next game for the St. Albert Flyers in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League is tonight in Camrose.
Puck drop is 7:15 p.m. against the Red Wings (1-4).
The second home game of the season for the midget 15 Flyers (3-1-1) is Sunday against the Spruce Grove PAC Saints (4-0) at 5 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
Last weekend the Flyers and Lloydminster Rage (1-3-2) battled to a 6-6 draw in the Border City.
Peter Michailides netted the tying marker with 28 seconds to play as the Flyers outscored the Rage 5-2 in the third period.
Cole Gupta, an affiliate with the bantam AAA St. Albert Sabres, Marcus Walter, Jordan Crotty, Leif Mattson and Robert Putt potted singles. Mattson also collected three assists. He leads the team in scoring with eight goals and 15 points in five games.
Shots were 29-28 for the Heat as Nathan Reinhart and Chris Curr split time in net.
Game time is 1:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
Red Deer (10-0-2), the host team for the 2015 Esso Cup national championship, is first overall in the 10-team standings and the Slash (8-6-1) are ranked third.
Last month the Slash lost 2-0 to Red Deer in Lethbridge.
The Slash are 2-2-1 in their last five games.
The St. Albert Sabres have games scheduled on consecutive days after a week off in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Sunday the Sabres (3-4-2) and SSAC Southgate Lions (5-2) face-off at 5:45 p.m. at Millwoods Arena.
Monday the Sabres play the KC Squires (1-5-1) at 6:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
Last weekend the Sabres lost 5-1 to the defending AMBHL champion Lloydminster Heat (4-5) in St. Albert. Garret Clegg scored as the Sabres outshot the Heat 40-29.
