The 16th annual Turkey Ring tournament, hosted by the St. Albert Ringette Association, starts Thursday at Mark Messier Arena. At 6:30 p.m. the St. Albert Slash plays Beaumont in the U12 petite B division, followed by St.

At 6:30 p.m. the St. Albert Slash plays Beaumont in the U12 petite B division, followed by St. Albert Mission against Edmonton Elite at 7:45 p.m. in the U14 tween AA division.

The 132-game draw resumes Friday morning and the last game is Monday’s U12 petite A final at 4:45 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

Games are also scheduled for the Troy Murray, Akinsdale, Kinex, Riviere Qui Barre and Canadian Athletic Club arenas.

The five-day Turkey Ring features 71 teams, of which 21 are from St. Albert.

The 13 divisions of competition are U10 novice 1, 2 and 3, U12 A, B and C, U14 tween A, B and AA, U16 junior A and B and U19 belle A and B.

This is the second year for U14 AA teams.

Last year a record 78 teams, including 27 from St. Albert, skated for medals in 14 divisions.

Volleyball teams at the St. Albert Catholic High School have home floor advantage this week in the metro Edmonton league.

Wednesday the lady Skyhawks host the Queen Elizabeth Knights at 4:15 p.m. in division two pool B junior action and at 6:15 p.m. the senior team spikes the ball in division one against the Jasper Place Rebels at 6:15 p.m.

Monday the juniors (1-0) were at Lillian Osborne School and the seniors (3-1), last year’s 3A provincial silver medallists, entertained the Bev Facey Falcons but the scores were unavailable at press time.

Thursday the men’s team swings into action against Lillian Osborne at 4:45 p.m. at the SkyDome.

Tuesday in division two pool B the Skyhawks (2-0) played Mother Margaret Mary at the SkyDome but the score was unavailable at press time.

Thursday the St. Albert Sabres travel to Leduc to play the undefeated Oil Kings at 7:45 p.m. in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.

The Sabres were 1-2-1 prior to Tuesday’s game against the Canadian Athletic Club but the score was unavailable at press time.

Last weekend at Castledowns Arena the Sabres raked the Maple Leafs 9-4 for their first win of the season.

Cole Gupta and Martin Rudolf recorded hat-tricks, Garrett Clegg potted a pair and Kye Buchanan also scored.

Shots were 48-31 for the Sabres and in net was Colton Girad.
