The Bellerose Bulldogs host a six-team high school junior football jamboree today at Riel Recreation Park.
Bellerose, the two-time undefeated metro Edmonton junior division one champions, Paul Kane Blues, Bev Facey Falcons, McNally Tigers and the St. Francis Browns and Henry Wise Wood Warriors of Calgary are competing in the controlled scrimmage format.
The start times for the 30-minute sessions are as follows.
2:15 p.m. Paul Kane vs. Henry Wise Wood and McNally vs. St. Francis.
2:50 p.m. Bev Facey vs. Paul Kane and McNally vs. Bellerose.
3:25 p.m. Henry Wise Wood vs. Bev Facey and Bellerose vs. St. Francis.
4 p.m. Paul Kane vs. St. Francis and McNally vs. Henry Wise Wood.
4:35 p.m. Paul Kane vs. Bellerose and McNally vs. Bev Facey.
5:10 p.m. Bev Facey vs. St. Francis and Henry Wise Wood vs. Bellerose.
League play starts Tuesday in pool B for Paul Kane against the St. Joseph Saints at 5 p.m. at the Riel turf field.
Bellerose and Bev Facey also clash in Tuesday’s exhibition at 7:30 p.m. at Sherwood Park.
The second division men’s team at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club scrums down twice in three days with a playoff spot up for grabs.
Today the seconds (4-5-1) visit the Grande Prairie Centaurs (3-7) at 4 p.m. and Monday they host the Nor’Westers (3-7) at 6:30 p.m. in the second-last SARFC home game of the season to wrap up the Edmonton Rugby Union fixtures.
All three teams are battling for the fourth and final playoff spot for the right to play the Leduc Crude (10-0) in the Sept. 20 semifinals.
The seconds are winless in three matches after beating the Centaurs 20-17.
The seconds kicked off the season with a 26-25 win over the Nor’Westers, last year’s undefeated provincial champions.
The St. Albert Women’s Soccer League semifinals kick off Sunday at Forest Park.
The division one pairings are Mavericks 09 (4-0 and 14-0 overall) vs. Mavericks 95 (2-3 and 6-8-1 overall) and Morinville Ladies (2-1-1 and 11-2-1 overall) vs. Kickers (2-2 and 6-6-2 overall) at 4 p.m.
In division two it’s Cosmos FC (4-1 and 7-7-1 overall) vs. Gini’s (3-3 and 5-9-2 overall) and Snipe (3-2 and 7-7-1 overall) vs. St. Albert Blaze (1-3-2 and 3-10-3 overall) at 6 p.m.
The finals are Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. at Forest Park.
