Friday the Baseball Alberta midget AAA Tier I champions play Quebec and the host Magog team and the last game before the crossover playoffs is Saturday against Saskatchewan.

Meanwhile, four Cardinals — pitcher Jackson Wark, infielder Austin Watamaniuk, first-baseman Erik Sabrowski and pitcher/outfielder Dylan Gates — competed for Alberta at the U17 Baseball Canada Cup in Saskatoon.

In Sunday’s final Alberta lost 5-1 to B.C.

The U19 men’s semifinal highlights tonight’s junior doubleheader at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. between SARFC and the Strathcona Druids.

SARFC (3-1) finished second and the Druids (1-3) tied for third in the U19 table. In league play SARFC defeated the Druids 27-22 in Sherwood Park.

The winner will scrum down against the Clansmen (4-0) or Pirates/LTs (1-3) in the Edmonton Rugby Union final for the Nor’Westers Cup next Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Ellerslie Rugby Park.

The provincial final against the Calgary Rugby Union champion is Aug. 23 at Calgary Rugby Park.

Tonight’s U17 tilt between SARFC (1-4) and the Druids (2-3) also kicks off at 7 p.m. Last month the Druids beat SARFC 29-10 in Sherwood Park.

The semifinals are next Wednesday and the ERU final for the Ron Allen Cup is Aug. 23 at Ellerslie. SARFC is the defending champion.

A victory Thursday for the St. Albert Impact would nail down the first Edmonton District Soccer Association premier men’s pennant in team history.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. against AC Milan at the ESA Complex.

The Impact are unbeaten in 15 matches and winners of six in a row after blanking AS Roma 5-0 last week for their 12th victory of the season.

AC Milan trailed the Impact by five points with one less win while holding a game in hand entering Monday’s match against fifth-place AS Roma. The score was unavailable at press time.

AC Milan led the league in goals-against with nine and the Impact were tied with fourth-place Victoria for the most goals at 28.

Bruno Zebie is Impact’s top scorer with eight goals, Carlos Patino netted seven and Haris Kevac and Shamit Shome have six apiece.
