The Edmonton Rugby Union division two women’s semifinal between St. Albert and the Strathcona Druids kicks off today at noon at Lynn Davies Rugby Park.
Both teams tied for second at 3-1 in the five-team table but the Druids had one more bonus point than St. Albert.
Last month the Druids thumped St. Albert 42-14 in Sherwood Park.
In the combined ERU spring league and division two tables St. Albert is 8-4 and the Druids are 5-7.
The winner will play the first-place Grande Prairie Sirens (3-1 and 6-6 overall) or the fourth-place Rockers (1-3 and 2-10 overall) in the ERU final Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. at Ellerslie Rugby Park.
The St. Albert Stars huddle up today against the Central Alberta Buccaneers in the last game before the Alberta Football League playoffs.
Kickoff is 2 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.
The Stars are 2-4 for sixth place. In the preseason they beat the Bucs 26-12 in St. Albert.
The Bucs are tied for fourth with the first-year Fort McMurray Monarchs at 3-3.
In the playoffs the Stars will travel to play the Grande Prairie Drillers (4-2) or Fort McMurray on Aug 16.
The Calgary Gators (6-0) and Calgary Wolfpack (5-1) have first round byes.
Last year the Stars lost the AFL final to the Gators to finish their inaugural AFL season at 6-4.
Game three is 4 p.m. Sunday at Stu Peppard Arena in Calgary.
If needed, game four is Aug. 16 at 4 p.m. in Calgary and game five is Aug. 17 at 4 p.m. at Stu Barnes Arena.
The winner advances to the Presidents’ Cup national championship, Aug. 25 to 29 at Coquitlam, B.C.
The Miners are 20-0 overall after winning the series opener 12-2 last weekend in St. Albert.
The Mountaineers, last year’s provincial champions and fourth-place finishers at nationals, are 11-8-2 overall.
The second annual J.R. Patrick Classic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament tips off at 9 a.m. today at the south parking lot at Servus Credit Union Place.
Teams will play a minimum of four games – three today and one on Sunday.
The male and female divisions are 10 to 12, 13 to 15, 16-17 and 18-plus.
