Tonight the Edmonton Oil Kings play the Red Deer Rebels at Go Auto Arena in Western Hockey League preseason action.
Faceoff is 7 p.m. and tickets are available at the door for $10.
The Oil Kings also have a preseason game scheduled in St. Albert on Sept. 12 against the Calgary Hitmen at 7 p.m.
The junior Bellerose Bulldogs host the Peace Wapiti Academy Titans of Grande Prairie in preseason football today at 2 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.
The three-time defending undefeated metro Edmonton division one champions, winners of 23 consecutive league and playoff games combined, also huddle up Sept. 12 against the Henry Wisewood Warriors of Calgary at 2 p.m. at Johnny Bright Park and Sept. 15 against the Bev Facey Falcons at 6 p.m. in St. Albert.
The Bulldogs kick off the metro league’s pool B schedule Sept. 29 against the Paul Kane Blues.
Sunday’s intersquad games for the midget AAA St. Albert Raiders start at 2:30 and 5 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The first preseason game for the Raiders is Sept. 14 against the KC Pats at 6:15 p.m. at Bill Hunter Arena.
The bantam AAA St. Albert Sabres skate into the preseason Sunday against the Canadian Athletic Club.
Puck drop is noon at Akinsdale Arena.
Wednesday the Sabres visit the Spruce Grove PAC Saints at 7:15 p.m. at Grant Fuhr Arena.
The online registration deadline for the 13th annual St. Albert Fall Challenge is Sept. 17 at www.events.runningroom.com.
As of Wednesday, 114 runners and walkers had registered for the 21.1-kilometre half-marathon and 10-km and five-km races Sept. 20.
Kingswood Park is the event venue and the start times are 8 a.m. for the half-marathon walk and 9 a.m. for the half-marathon run, 10-km run/walk and five-km run/walk on the Red Willow trails.
Pre-registration is not required for the .5-km kids’ race at 11:30 a.m.
Last year there were 198 finishers in the half-marathon run/walk, 10-km run/walk and five-km run/walk.
The half-marathon winner was Chris Stone of Edmonton in one hour, 15 minutes and 24 seconds as 91 runners completed the race.
The fastest female was Reina Ainsworth of Edmonton at 1:30:33 for third place overall.
