The St. Albert Stars line up against the Grande Prairie Drillers Saturday afternoon for their first home game in over a month. The game kicks off at 2 p.m. in Riel field.
Last Saturday the Stars met the Lloydminster Vandals in the Vandals’ arena and stomped them into the grass with a score of 35-14.
The Stars came out firing early with four quick touchdowns including a 59-yard punt return by Terrence Williams. By the end of the first quarter the Stars were ahead 28-0.
The Vandals picked up a score in the second quarter but a 75-yard touchdown reception by Williams put the game out of their grasp.
The Stars are returning to St. Albert after a three game road trip saw the team visit Calgary, Fort McMurray, and Lloydminster for most of June and July.
All-Star game postponed
The annual St. Albert Men’s League All-Star game was scheduled to take place Sunday at Riel turf field but has been postponed until sometime in August.
The All-Star kits being held up by customs in Montreal caused the delay.
The date of the rescheduled game wasn’t available at press time.
Last year’s All-Star game was an exciting back and forth affair that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Lacrosse Junior B playoffs
The St. Albert Crude met the rival Saskatchewan SWAT Friday night at Akinsdale Arena to kick off the Junior B playoffs. The score was not available at press time.
The first place Crude earned home arena advantage with 15 wins, four losses and one tie in the regular season.
Injuries have plagued the Crude all season long but head coach Terry Dokken is confident the team will have a full roster for the playoffs.
The SWAT was one of the few teams to beat the Crude during the regular season.
Game two of the best of three series between the Crude and SWAT takes place Saturday night at Akinsdale Arena at 6 p.m.
A conditional game three is scheduled for Sunday at noon at Akinsdale Arena if the teams trade wins.
Lacrosse Senior B playoffs
The Senior B Division playoffs kicked off Wednesday night with a lopsided match between the first and fourth place teams.
St. Albert’s Senior Miners ran over the Edmonton Outlaws 14-5 in a game that was over before the second period started.
The Sr. Miners’ trademark high intensity style gave the fans a lot to cheer for in the early moments of the game. The team scored seven goals in the first period of play and was up by 10 after two.
It was the dominant performance that fans have come to expect from the Sr. Miners. They tore up their division in the regular season with a perfect 16-0 record and looked unstoppable.
The Miners and the Outlaws played the second game of this best of five on Friday night but scores were unavailable at press time.
The third game of the best of five series is set for Wednesday night at Coronation Arena in Edmonton. The ball drops at 8 p.m.
