Last year in the Edmonton Rugby Union the Nor’Westers placed first at 13-0-1, en route to winning the provincial Lor Ann Cup, and the seconds finished fifth at 5-8-1.

Meanwhile, today’s Alberta Cup match between St. Albert and Calgary Saints at Ellerslie has been postponed because the Saints were unable to field a full lineup.

The premier side will now make their season debut Thursday against the rival Clansmen at 7 p.m. at Airway Park.

Last year the first 15 finished 8-6 overall as the Labatt’s Cup provincial finalists and the Clan was 7-6 overall.

St. Albert’s 2-1 record against the Clan included a Ken Ann Cup victory to determine the ERU rep at provincials.

The St. Albert Crude have two home games scheduled this weekend in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League

Last year’s junior B Tier 1 provincial finalists play the Sherwood Park Titans (1-1) tonight at 6 p.m. and the Winnipeg-based Manitoba Blizzard (0-0) at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Akinsdale Arena.

Last weekend in St. Albert the Crude (1-0-1) rallied to tie the Red Deer Rampage (1-1-1) 9-9 and beat the Okotoks Marauders (0-1) 9-2.

The St. Albert Heavenly Rollers Derby League hosts a doubleheader tonight at Servus Credit Union Place.

At 6 p.m. the Greater Edmonton Junior Roller Derby Association’s Orange Crushers roll into action against WickED, followed by the Heavenly Rollers’ Beelzbubs against the Foxy Rollers.

Tickets are $10 online at www.stahrderby.com or $15 at the door.

Monday in metro Edmonton high school women’s rugby the Bellerose Bulldogs and Sturgeon Spirits scrum down at 4:45 p.m. at the Pirates Rugby Club.

It’s the last division one match for both teams before the playoffs.

Bellerose, last year’s premier (now division one) finalist, is 2-0 in pool A and Sturgeon is 0-2 in pool B.

The metro Edmonton women’s soccer season kicks into overdrive next week for St. Albert’s high school teams.

In division two the Paul Kane Blues play the St. Albert Skyhawks, last year’s city conference (now division two) finalists, on Tuesday at Forest Park field.

The Blues are back on the pitch Thursday against the Bellerose Bulldogs at Grosvenor field.

Kickoff times are 4:15 p.m.
