At 4 p.m. in the Alberta Cup the premier side scrums down against the Calgary Saints.

Last year the first 15 finished 8-6 overall as provincial finalists.

Tonight the St. Albert Junior Cardinals welcome the Edmonton Athletics in the North Central Alberta Baseball League season opener.

Game time is 7:15 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

Last year the Cardinals finished sixth at 8-10 in their inaugural NCABL campaign.

The senior AA NCABL is celebrating its 47th year as the most progressive baseball league in Alberta.

During the Rainmaker Rodeo weekend the Cardinals are hosting an NCABL-sanctioned tournament May 23 to 25.

Thursday the St. Albert Impact premier men’s teams square-off in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. between Impact 1 and Impact Rangers at Foote Field.

The Impact 1 side is 1-0-1 after tying Victoria 2-2 and blanking Juventus Scona 5-0.

Haris Kevac scored four of the team’s seven goals.

Last year Impact 1 finished tied for fifth at 7-3-8.

The Rangers battled Africana FC to a 1-1 draw before Monday’s match against Sherwood Park Karpaty. The score was unavailable at press time.

The Rangers moved back up into premier after winning their division one promotion challenge following a second-place 9-1-4 showing in the 1A table.

Friday the St. Albert Tigers make their season debut in the Sunburst Baseball League.

The first pitch is 7:30 p.m. against the Red Deer Riggers at Legion Memorial Park.

Last year the Tigers finished 7-9 for a third-place tie in the five-team standings and in the playoffs were eliminated in the first round.

Meanwhile, the 31st annual Tigers Baseball Association Tournament is scheduled for July 11 to 13.

This weekend Fastball St. Albert hosts the Girls Prairie League Softball tournament opener, starting Friday at the Meadowview and Henry Singer diamonds.

Fastball St. Albert will be represented in the U12, U14 and U16 divisions.

Organizers are expecting approximately 40 teams, including 10 from Edmonton and area, and from as far away as Prince Albert, Sask.
