Sweeping playoff action begins next week at the St. Albert Curling Club to determine the President’s Cup and Manager’s Cup champions.

The opening draws in the men’s and women’s brackets are Monday night and the mixed starts Tuesday night.

The playoff schedule ends March 27.

The President’s Cup winners in the men’s, women’s and mixed playoffs qualify for the 51st annual Edmonton and area Tournament of Champions next month at the Saville Community Sports Centre.

The men’s and women’s rinks will also represent St. Albert at the 2015 Dominion Curling Club northern playdowns.

Last year rinks skipped by Craig King (men) Christina Monk (women) and Doug McLennan (mixed) were crowned President’s Cup champions.

King went on to win the Tournament of Champions and McLennan was a finalist.

The second annual Donnie MAC Cup on April 5 will feature two simultaneous games at the Akinsdale and Kinex arenas.

Last year’s game at the West Edmonton Mall Ice Palace raised more than $15,000 in the fight against lung cancer.

The fundraiser honours the memory of Don MacMillan, a St. Albert resident who died of lung cancer on March 19, 2011 at age 61.

The majority of the 54 players (four goalies, 16 defencemen, 34 forwards) confirmed for this year’s Donnie MAC Cup are St. Albert Minor Hockey Association alumni.

The ceremonial puck drop is 2:30 p.m.

Donations will be accepted at the door.

The fundraiser wraps up with a pub night and silent auction at the Celtic Knot.

Donations can also be made to www.lungcancercanada.ca or at MAC Insurance at No. 8, 44 St. Thomas Street in St. Albert and MAC Registries, 14228 Stony Plain Road.

You can also like/join the Facebook pages for MAC Insurance or Sleepingbeagle Studios for more information, or by contacting Derek MacMillan at [email protected].

Online registrations are being accepted for the 29th annual St. Albert Road Runners and Triathlon Club’s 10-mile road race and third annual six-kilometre fun run April 13.

Visit www.zone4.ca for details.

As of Wednesday the registration totals included 137 for the 10-miler and one for the fun run.

Last year 385 runners finished the 10-miler and 23 completed the fun run.

The 10-miler is part of the Timex Alberta Road Race Series and was a top-10 finalist for Alberta’s best road race in 2013.
