The St. Albert Centre Ladies Bonspiel rocks the rings this weekend at the St. Albert Curling Club.
Sunday’s finals start at 2:30 p.m.
The bonspiel theme is Country Challenge in honour of the Sochi 2014 Winter Games and every rink is assigned a country to represent on the ice.
The St. Albert Soccer Association hosts its season-ending Active Start Soccerfest this weekend at Servus Credit Union Place for community players in the U4 to U10 indoor soccer programs.
Each team will play a game against parents and enjoy face painting and time in the inflatable fun tents.
There are approximately 590 players from 50 teams in U4 to U8 and 200 players from 13 teams in U10.
The U4 to U8 session is today from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday’s U10 event is 12 to 6:30 p.m.
This weekend’s Sweetheart Meet, hosted by the Dynamyx Gymnastics Club of St. Albert at its Campbell Business Park facility, features 186 athletes from 19 clubs in north central Alberta.
The meet consists of six- to 14-year-old athletes in the competitive stream of provincial level gymnastics. It’s also a tune-up for the north regional qualifier for the Alberta Gymnastics Federation championships in April.
Saturday’s session times are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday’s times are 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.
The St. Albert Nordic Ski Club hosts its annual loppet Sunday at Kingswood Park.
Online registrations ended Friday night for the classic technique event and sprint classic relays for six- to 13-year-olds.
The loppet features various distances for classic technique and the relays.
The mass start time for classic technique is 2 p.m. and the relays go at 3 p.m. with mass starts for each birth year.
Next week the Paul Kane Blues wrap up the metro Edmonton regular season in division one basketball.
Monday’s tip-off times against the host O’Leary Spartans are 5 p.m. for the men and 6:30 p.m. for the women.
Wednesday’s game times against the Edmonton Christian Lions at Paul Kane are 5 p.m. for the women and 6:30 p.m. for the men.
The lady Blues, ranked No. 8 in 4A, are 8-2 and the Paul Kane men, a 4A honourable mention, are 5-6.
