It’s a full house Friday night, as all 24 rinks in the St. Albert Centre Ladies Bonspiel grace the ice.
Draw times are 6 and 8:15 p.m. at the St. Albert Curling Club.
There is no curling Saturday night.
Sunday’s finals start at 2:30 p.m.
The Olympic theme this year is Country Challenge and every rink is assigned a country.
Last year the Christina Monk rink of Lauren Jenkyns, Kathy Piper and Laurie Schreiner defeated the Bev Merryweather team 7-3 in seven ends for the bonspiel title.
Merryweather lost the 2012 final 4-2 in seven ends to Shannon Germsheid.
The Dynamyx Gymnastics Club of St. Albert hosts its annual Sweetheart Meet this weekend at its Campbell Business Park facility.
The meet features 186 athletes six to 14 years old from 19 clubs across north central Alberta performing in the competitive stream of provincial level gymnastics in four categories in various age groupings.
It’s also one of a series of meets in northern Alberta to prepare athletes for the north regional provincials to qualify for the Alberta Gymnastics Federation championships in April.
Session times Saturday are 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Medal ceremonies start about 15 minutes after the completion of the last round.
Online registration closes 11 p.m. Friday for the STANSKI Loppet on Sunday.
The fee is $5 per skier for classic technique and sprint relays for six- to 13-year-olds is free.
Classic technique distances are 1.5 kilometre stadium loop, 2.5 km Lower River Lot loop and the Lower River Lot and River’s Edge Trail 5 km (one lap), 10 km (2 laps, 15 km (three laps) and 20 km (four laps).
Relay distances, classic only, are 50 metres for ages six to eight, 75m for ages nine and 10 and 100m for ages 11 to 13.
The two-person relay teams are assigned by race organizers and each team member skis two laps.
The mass start time for classic technique is 2 p.m. and the sprint relays go at 3 p.m. with mass starts for each birth year.
Bib pickups at Kingswood shelter are 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. for classic technique and 2:45 p.m. for sprint relays.
