The annual Lorne Akins School students versus staff hockey/ringette game will pack the stands at Akinsdale Arena on Friday in support of the Kinettes’ holiday season food hamper drive.
The three period hockey-ringette-hockey format starts around 9:30 a.m.
Students who brought in food donations had their names entered in a draw to play on the hockey and ringette teams and they were also eligible for door prizes.
Two years ago the students schooled the teachers 4-4 in hockey and 6-1 in ringette and last year the ringette portion ended in a 2-2 draw and the teachers prevailed 8-7 in a shootout. The students pulled even with 45 seconds to play in the last period after the teachers tied it with 1:30 remaining.

The division three women (1-2) host the Louis St. Laurent Barons (1-1) and the division two pool B men (3-0) visit the Eastglen Blue Devils (0-2).

Thursday marks the last game before the Christmas holidays for the St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Faceoff is 7 p.m. against the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers at Akinsdale Arena.
The Sabres (21-1-1) and Rangers (19-3-1) are the top teams in their respective north divisions.
The Rangers, Lethbridge Golden Hawks (19-4-3), Red Deer Rebels (17-2-5) and Calgary Bisons (15-8-3) join the Sabres as the AMBHL teams at the John Reid Memorial Tournament, Jan. 19 to 22 at Servus Credit Union Place.
The third win in a row for the Sabres after losing 5-0 to the Calgary Flames (9-8-5) Dec. 11 in St. Albert was Monday’s 10-0 thumping of the Maple Leafs (8-13-4) at Clareview Arena.
Kyle Nelson (12-0-1) stopped 22 shots for his first shutout of the season and the team’s fourth.
The St. Albert Royals close out their December schedule in the Rural & Edmonton Midget 15AA Hockey League on Thursday against the Strathcona Warriors.
Puck drop is 8:15 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The Royals (9-5-3) and Strathcona (4-12) are third and sixth, respectively, in the standings.
Monday the Royals skated in Sherwood Park against the Senators (6-9-2) but the score was unavailable at press time.
Caleb Caines leads the Royals in scoring with 16 goals and 23 points in 16 games.
