The St. Albert Physical Education Council junior high volleyball semifinals start today for the boys and Thursday for the girls in the Tier I and II playoffs.
The city finals are Nov. 15 in Tier II at a gym to be determined and Nov. 17 in Tier I at 6 p.m. for the girls and 8 p.m. for the boys at Bellerose Composite High School.
The top playoff seeds are the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs (7-0, 21 GW/4 GL) for the girls and Lorne Akins Gators (7-0, 21 GW/3 GL) for the boys.
Last year the Vincent J. Maloney Marauders beat Lorne Akins in four sets in the girls’ final and the Morinville Wolves also needed four sets to knock off the Gators in the boys’ final.
The 2014 champions were the Voyageurs for the girls and the Gators for the boys.
The Bernadette Price Memorial AA Tournament starts Friday in Saskatoon for the St. Albert Mission belle, junior and tween ringette teams.
The U14AA tweens skate against the Winnipeg Wild, Saskatoon Saints, Eastman Flames and Manitoba Magic in pool play.
The Mission tweens are 10-2-1 after Saturday’s 4-3 win over the Spruce Grove Storm at Stu Barnes Arena.
The U16AA juniors have games against the Saskatoon Selects, Calgary Pace and Eastman Flames.
The Mission juniors are coming off Sunday’s 10-4 road loss to U19A Sherwood Park and team’s record is 8-4.
The schedule for the U19AA belles consists of the Zone 5 Grit, Regina Bandits, Calgary and Eastman Flames.
The Mission belles are 3-4 this season and the team’s last game was 5-4 over University Ringette in St. Albert.
The U19A St. Albert Sigma are also competing at the Saskatoon tournament against the Saskatoon Ice, St. James Belle, Regina RIPT and Calgary Bowview.
Thursday the St. Albert Slash host the Lloydminster Steelers in the Alberta Midget AAA Female Hockey League.
Puck drop is 8:15 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The Slash (7-0, 29 GF/7 GA) and Lloydminster (7-3-1, 24 GF/23 GA) are the top teams in the league.
Last weekend the Slash posted wins of 6-4 against the Rocky Mountain Raiders (6-4-1) and 4-1 against the Edmonton Pandas (3-6) in St. Albert.
Cassidy Maplethorpe of Wetaskiwin leads the Slash in scoring with six goals and 11 points and Tyra Meropoulis of Edson has a league-high eight assists.
