The top six Tier I (1,250-plus students) Carr teams qualified for the Championship Saturday playoff format to determine the three metro reps for the Nov. 12 north semifinals.

The Panthers (5-2-1, 148 PF/146 PA) and Bulldogs (4-4, 130 PF/163 PA) are seeded third and fourth, respectively, in the Tier I qualifier and in league play Spruce Grove beat Bellerose 15-7 Oct. 21.

The Football Alberta Tier I rankings list the Panthers at No. 9 and the Bulldogs are unranked.

Sports Day in St. Albert will be celebrated at Servus Credit Union Place today from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The event, presented by St. Albert Dodge, features 25 sports groups and a variety of demonstrations and interactive try it opportunities.

The inaugural Integra Tire and Auto Centre Open Bonspiel is rocking the ice this weekend at the St. Albert Curling Club.

The 24-rink draw includes two female teams and several mixed and men’s entries.

Sunday’s finals start at 2:30 p.m.

Sunday the St. Albert Merchants visit the Morinville Jets in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

Puck drop is 6:45 p.m. at Ray McDonald Sports Centre.

The Merchants and Jets will also face-off Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. in Morinville.

The first tilt between the CJHL rivals ended in a shootout as the Merchants prevailed 7-6 Oct. 30 in St. Albert.

The Jets are 5-0-1 on home ice and the Merchants are 4-2 away from Akinsdale Arena.

The Jets (7-3-4) skated into the weekend ranked second in the west division as winners of three in a row.

The Merchants (8-5) were tied for third in the west while going 2-4 in their last six games before hosting the Spruce Grove Regals (2-9-2) Friday. The score was unavailable at press time.
