Thursday’s match is against Fraser Valley of B.C., followed by St. John’s SC of Newfoundland on Friday and Hillsborough United of Prince Edward Island on Sunday.

Group A consists of the Brampton East Blades of Ontario, Bonivital SC of Manitoba, Eastside FC of Saskatchewan, FDSA of New Brunswick and the Yukon Strikers.

Monday the top teams in both groups qualify for the gold-medal match and the second-place finishers play for bronze. The rest of the teams meet in the crossover-seeding phase.

The Impact are the first St. Albert boys’ team to qualify for nationals since the 1989 Cougars won the U18 championship.

The Impact’s record is 17-0-2 after the Edmonton Interdistrict Youth Soccer Association regular season and provincial tournament. The Aug. 21 final in Calgary ended 4-3 in penalty kicks against Foothills after a scoreless 80 minutes of full time and 20 minutes of extra time.

The St. Albert Skyhawks host the Paul Kane Blues in today’s metro Edmonton volleyball doubleheader.

Match times are 5 p.m. for the division two men and 6:30 p.m. for the division one women at the SkyDome.

The 18th annual Turkey Ring starts Friday morning and ends Monday afternoon for 66 teams at the Go Auto, Mark Messier, Troy Murray, Akinsdale, Kinex and Riviere Qui Barre arenas.

The tournament draw consists of 119 games in the U10 (Step 1, 2 and 3), petite (U12A, U12B and U12C), tween (U14AA, U14A and U14B), junior (U16AA, U16A and U16B) belle (U19A and U19B) divisions.

The host St. Albert Ringette Association is represented by 20 teams.

The tournament’s feature game is Friday’s U19AA tilt between the St. Albert Mission and Central Alberta Sting at 7:15 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

The St. Albert High Skyhawks tackle the O’Leary Spartans in metro Edmonton football Friday.

Kickoff is 5 p.m. at Clarke Park.

The Skyhawks are 1-2 and O’Leary is 2-1 in the Miles conference division two standings.

The Skyhawks are coming off their bye week and O’Leary’s last game was 21-13 over the St. Francis Xavier Rams (0-2-1).
