The Bellerose Bulldogs, Paul Kane Blues and St. Albert Skyhawks host metro Edmonton volleyball doubleheaders today.
The Bellerose men play the St. Francis Xavier Rams at 5 p.m. in division two and the lady Bulldogs spike the ball at 6:30 p.m. against the J.H. Picard Pumas in division three.
Match times at Paul Kane against the Memorial Marauders are 5 p.m. for the men in division two and 6:30 p.m. for the lady Blues in division one.
The Skyhawks serve up their division two men’s match against the M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs at 5 p.m. and the lady Skyhawks, the 2015 3A provincial champions and metro division one finalists, face-off against the Holy Trinity Trojans at 6:30 p.m. in division one.
The Paul Kane Blues and Bellerose Bulldogs are back on the gridiron Friday in the metro Edmonton league.
Paul Kane (1-2) and the Austin O’Brien Crusaders (2-1) line up at 5 p.m. at Clarke Park and Bellerose (1-3) hosts the Jasper Place Rebels (2-2) at 6 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.
The result between Paul Kane and AOB, the only Tier II (school population 750 to 1,249) Carr teams, will help determine which team plays the St. Joseph’s Celtics of Grande Prairie of the Mighty Peace league and the region seven Wheatland/Fort McMurray rep in the Nov. 12 provincial north semifinals in Edmonton.
Paul Kane is coming off a bye week and AOB, listed seventh in the Football Alberta Tier II rankings, beat Bellerose 27-12 in St. Albert.
The Rebels and Bellerose are the fourth and fifth place Tier I (1,250 students) teams in the Carr and the top six out of the seven in the standings qualify for the Championship Saturday playoffs Nov. 5 to declare the three metro teams for the Nov. 12 provincial north semifinals in Edmonton.
The annual St. Albert Physical Education Council junior high volleyball tournament starts 2 p.m. Friday for 16 boys’ and 16 girls’ teams.
The draw consists of 102 best-of-three matches at Vincent J. Maloney and the SkyDome for the girls and Richard S. Fowler, Lorne Akins, Elmer S. Gish and Ecole Secondaire Sainte Marguerite D’Youville for the boys.
Saturday’s playoffs begin at 9 a.m. and the finals are 3:15 p.m. at the SkyDome for the girls and ESSMY for the boys.
Last year’s winners were VJM for the girls and Morinville Wolves for the boys.
