The annual St. Albert Physical Education Council district junior high cross-country championships start 10 a.m. Thursday at Kingswood Park.
The top Grade 7, 8 and 9 male and female finishers on the Riverlot 56 trails advance to zones Wednesday at Goldbar Park.
The SAPEC Grade 4, 5 and 6 district meet follows the junior high competition.
Friday’s doubleheader in metro Edmonton high school football kicks off at 5 p.m. between the St. Albert High Skyhawks and Leduc Tigers at Riel Recreation Park.
Leduc is 2-0 and the Skyhawks are 1-1 in the Miles Conference division two league.
The Skyhawks are coming off a 42-0 loss to the Ardrossan Bisons (1-1) Friday at Clarke Park.
Ardrossan is No. 1 in the Tier IV (school population 449 or less students) Football Alberta rankings and the Skyhawks, the only Tier III (450 to 749 students) team in Miles, is unranked.
The 7:30 p.m. Carr conference division one contest features the Bellerose Bulldogs (1-2) and Austin O’Brien Crusaders (1-1).
Bellerose was blanked 37-0 by the Harry Ainlay Titans (3-0) Friday at Foote Field.
In Tier I (1,250-plus students), Ainlay is ranked fourth and Bellerose is unranked.
The Paul Kane Blues (1-2), ranked 10th in Tier II (750 to 1,249 students), have the bye week after winning their first game of the season, 36-6 over the Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds (0-2) Friday at Clarke Park.
The next Paul Kane game is Sept. 30 versus the Crusaders at 5 p.m. at Clarke Park. Paul Kane and the Crusaders are the only Tier II teams in the Carr and the Crusaders are ranked seventh.
Nick “Magnus” Aldis, the current Global Force Wrestling world champion, headlines the Destined For Greatness Tour coming to St. Albert on Saturday.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and bell time is 7 p.m. at the St. Albert Community Hall.
St. Albert is the fourth stop for the Canadian Wrestling’s Elite tour of 10 cities in four provinces in 10 days.
Aldis is the first British competitor to hold a major world championship and he did it twice with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.
Canadian-born wrestlers will also perform in the ring.
Tickets are $21 for VIP first priority access and the 6 p.m. meet and greet, $16 general admission in advance and $19 at the door.
