The last home matches of the season at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club are Saturday’s semifinals against the Clan.
Kickoff times are 2 p.m. for the division one women and 4 p.m. for the premier men.
The SARFC ladies and the Pirates finished with identical 9-3 records in the Edmonton Rugby Union but the Pirates placed first overall with two more bonus points.
SARFC is 4-2 in its last six matches and both losses were against the Clan: 59-12 July 23 and 57-31 Aug. 13 at Airways Park.
The third-place Clan (8-4) is coming off its first loss after five straight victories, 24-12 against the host Pirates last weekend.
The semifinal winner scrums down against the Pirates or Crude/West (3-9) in the ERU Johnsen Cup next Saturday at 1 p.m. at Ellerslie Rugby Park.
The SARFC first 15 men are the top north team in the Alberta Cup table at 9-2 after securing second place overall in Saturday’s 36-33 road decision against the Calgary Rams (5-6-1).
The Clan is winless in three matches and the team’s 3-8 record includes losses to the firsts by scores of 24-9 June 11 at SARFC and 34-25 Aug. 20 at Airways Park.
The winner will battle the Nor’Westers (7-4) or Strathcona Druids (5-5-1) in the Ken Ann Cup north final next Saturday at 5 p.m. at Ellerslie to determine the ERU rep at the Labatt’s Cup provincial showdown Oct. 1 at Calgary Rugby Park.
The Calgary Hornets (12-0) are the top Alberta Cup team.
The firsts are striving for a provincial three-peat and fourth Labatt’s Cup in seven years as the Ken Ann Cup champions for the eighth time in nine years.
St. Albert’s high school football teams huddle up Friday in the metro Edmonton league.
The St. Albert High Skyhawks (1-0) tackle the Ardrossan Bisons (0-1) in the 5 p.m. Miles conference division two contest at Clarke Park.
The Skyhawks knocked off the defending Miles champion McNally Tigers 20-0 last week.
The Bellerose Bulldogs (1-1) line up against the Harry Ainlay Titans (2-0) in the 7:30 p.m. Carr conference division one tilt at Foote Field.
Last week the Bulldogs rallied in the fourth quarter against the Salisbury Sabres (0-2) to win 26-8.
The Paul Kane Blues (0-2) and Ross Sheppard Thunderbirds (0-1) play in the 7:30 p.m. Carr contest at Clarke Park.
The Blues suffered a 24-14 setback to the Spruce Grove Panthers (1-1) last week.
