Tonight’s promotion/challenge match between the division one St. Albert Rangers and premier division AC Milan in the Edmonton District Soccer Associations kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at the ESA Complex.

Tonight’s promotion/challenge match between the division one St. Albert Rangers and premier division AC Milan in the Edmonton District Soccer Associations kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at the ESA Complex.

The winner moves up into premier for the 2017 men’s outdoor season and the losing team competes in division one.

The Rangers are 9-4-2 (39 GF/21 GA) overall after finishing second in division 1A and in the Tier I playdowns won a berth at provincials next month in Calgary.

AC Milan was 5-9-4 (30 GF/43 GA) for eighth place in premier.

The annual St. Albert Minor Hockey Association equipment swap is Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Akinsdale Arena parking lot.

Gently used hockey equipment of any size can be dropped off at the SAMHA office inside the arena this week between 1 and 4 p.m.

Equipment must be clean and in good working order, with no rips, tears or cracks. Jerseys, socks and personal protection apparel will not be accepted but sticks are welcomed.

Equipment left over will be donated to Brick Sports Central to refurbish for families in need.

Sunday marks the third annual Esso Female Hockey Fun Day in St. Albert.

Registration for the free on-ice introduction for first-time female hockey players is 10 to 11 a.m. and the on-ice session is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Organizers will try to outfit the players with equipment they need to play. Jerseys will be supplied through the Esso Fun Day Program.

Meanwhile, a male and female equipment drop off and give away is scheduled for Sunday, from 9 a.m. to noon at Servus Place. The equipment is to be clean and useable.

Leftover equipment will be donated to Brick Sports Central.

The fastest game on ice will be showcased at Come Try Ringette this weekend.

Qualified instructors and on-ice volunteers from the St. Albert Ringette Association will lead participants through drills and games suitable for all skill levels.

Skates, gloves and a certified helmet are required but sticks and rings are provided.

On-ice sessions are 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. Saturday at Mark Messier Arena and 2:15 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Troy Murray Arena.

The event is free but pre-registration is required through www.cometryringette.com.
