The winner plays the Red Deer Riggers (13-7) or Confederation Park Cubs (9-11) in the best-of-five senior AAA provincial final. Red Deer won provincials the last two years and will represent Alberta at this year's nationals in Chatham, N.B.

In league play, the Tigers (9-10-1) won two and lost three against the A's (11-8).

St. Albert and the Clan scrum down tonight in Alberta first division women's rugby.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

The Clan, last year's provincial first division champion, is 3-2 and St. Albert is 1-2 - the team's only win was the July 25 forfeit by the LTs/Druids (1-2) - after going 7-2 (two wins were by forfeits) in the Edmonton Rugby Union second division spring league to secure a first division berth.

Last year, St. Albert finished 11-4 as the ERU and provincial second division champions.

Thursday's ERU youth tripleheader at SARFC starts at 6:30 p.m. between St. Albert (0-4) and the Nor'Westers (2-0) in U17 males, followed at 7 p.m. between St. Albert (3-1) and the Clan (3-2) in U17/U19 females and 8 p.m. between St. Albert (3-0) and the Nor'Westers (2-1) in U19 males.

The fifth provincial senior B final in six years for the St. Albert Miners starts this weekend at Coronation Arena.

Game times against the Rockyview Knights of Airdrie are 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

The best-of-five Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League playoff shifts to Max Bell Arena in Calgary for game three Aug. 15 at 5:30 p.m. and game four, if needed, Aug. 16, at 2 p.m.

Game five, if needed, is Aug. 22 at 6 p.m. in Airdrie.

The winner advances to the Presidents' Cup national championship, Aug. 31 to Sept. 5 at St. Catherines, Ont.

Last year's provincial triumph was the third in five years for the Miners, who lost the 2012 final to the Knights.

In league play, the first-place Knights (14-2, including a default loss) beat the second-place Miners (13-3), last year's national bronze medallists, twice by identical 9-8 scores.
