The host St. Albert Cardinals (21-6) are the top seed at provincials after the 11-team playdowns, followed by the Parkland Twins (21-9), Calgary Bandits (20-9), Okotoks Dawgs Black (19-4), Okotoks Dawgs Red (13-14), Red Deer Braves (12-15), Fort McMurray Oil Giants (11-11) and South Jasper Place Jays (10-14).

In pool A, the Cardinals played Dawgs Red on Friday but the score was unavailable at press time.

The Cardinals are up to bat today against the Jays at noon and Dawgs Black at 6 p.m.

Four pool B games are also slated for Spruce Grove today.

If there are no tiebreakers, Sunday’s semifinals are 9 a.m. and noon and the final is 3 p.m.

The winner qualifies for the Baseball Canada U15 championship, Aug. 25 to 29 in Summerside, P.E.I. and the runner-up goes to westerns, Aug. 12 to 14 in Spruce Grove.

The five-team tournament is hosted by St. Albert Cardinals Blue.

Friday the Cardinals played the Edmonton Padres and Edmonton Angels but scores were unavailable at press time.

The Cardinals are back on the diamond today against the Grande Prairie Reds at 3 p.m. and Sunday against the Sherwood Park Athletics at noon.

If there are no ties for first place, Sunday’s final is 3 p.m.

The St. Albert Tigers close out the regular season in the Sunburst Baseball league in Monday’s doubleheader against the Confederation Park Cubs.

Game times are 5 and 8 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.

The Tigers (5-12) need to sweep the Cubs (6-12) to finish third in the five-team standings.

The best-of-three semifinal for the Tigers in the Sunburst provincial playoffs starts Thursday. Game two is Friday night in St. Albert and game three, if needed, is Aug. 7.

The third-place finisher plays the Sherwood Park Athletics (15-5), last year’s Baseball Alberta senior AAA champion, and the fourth-place team competes against the Red Deer Riggers (17-1).

The Tigers are winless in three games after starting off the week with setbacks of 5-2 to the Cubs and 12-0 to the Athletics.
