As of Monday, 131 triathletes had registered online for the Aug. 7 competition at Fountain Park Recreation Centre.

Last year’s sprint distance race featured 192 finishers.

Mark Brown, a St. Albert Catholic High School alumnus representing the Edmonton Triathlon Academy, was the winner at 58 minutes and 54 seconds and the fastest female was Wietske Eikelenboom of St. Albert at 1:12:44 for 19th place overall.

The event is hosted by the St. Albert Road Runners and Triathlon Club.

St. Albert Impact teams kick the ball on their home pitch this week in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

The Impact division IB men (3-6-1) host the Scona Blues (3-4-2) tonight and Thursday the division 2A women (11-1-1) play FC Magic (6-5-2).

Kickoff times are 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

The Impact division 1B women (6-3-4) are also in action tonight against Wind/Heat (0-12-1) at 6:30 p.m. at Goldstick Park.

The St. Albert Cardinals are the host team for the Baseball Alberta mosquito AA Tier IV championship this weekend at Legion Memorial Park.

The six-team draw starts 3 p.m. Friday, followed by the opening ceremonies at 6 p.m.

If there are no tiebreakers, Sunday’s semifinals are 12 and 3 p.m. and the final is 6 p.m.

Last year’s Baseball Alberta midget AA Tier I champions and U18 Western Canada silver medallists are up to bat this weekend as the No. 1 seed at provincials in Strathmore.

The St. Albert Cardinals Red are 41-5-1 overall, including a recent tournament victory at the Valley of Champions in Kelowna, after going 7-1 in the last provincial round for an 18-1 mark in the Baseball Alberta league schedule.

After the eight-team provincials, Cardinals Red will gear up for westerns, Aug. 12 to 14 at Legion Memorial Park. It’s the second consecutive year the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association is staging the U18 midget, U15 bantam and U13 peewee westerns. The tournament will featured teams from Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and the host St. Albert Cardinals in each of the three AA divisions.
