The Baseball Alberta midget AA provincials are underway for the St. Albert Cardinals in the Tier I and II tournaments.
Cardinals Red is competing in Tier I at Fort Saskatchewan and Cardinals Blue is in Tier II at Okotoks.
Friday’s provincial opener for Cardinals Red (18-1) in pool A was against the North Peace Hurricanes (12-7) but the score was unavailable at press time.
Cardinals Red play today against the Olds Spitfires (13-7) at noon and Calgary PBF Redbirds (16-3) at 6 p.m.
Pool B consists of the Clive Coyotes (12-5-1), Bonnyville Braves (13-6), Fort Saskatchewan Red Sox 1 (11-8) and Leduc Giants (9-10).
The first game for Cardinals Blue (10-10) in pool A was Friday against Barrhead Orioles Orange (12-8) but the score was unavailable at press time.
Today’s game times are 9 a.m. against the Edmonton Angels (12-7) and 3 p.m. against the Calgary Cubs (7-11-1).
The pool B teams are Sherwood Park A’s (9-10-1), Okotoks Outlaws Blue (9-9-1), Stony Plain Royals (8-12) and Red Deer Braves (8-11).
If there are no tiebreakers in Tier I and II, Sunday’s semifinals are 9 a.m. and noon and the final is 3 p.m.

Overall, Cardinals Red is 38-7 and Cardinals Blue is 13-19-1.
Meanwhile, the St. Albert Minor Baseball Association is hosting the Western Canadian midget AA, bantam AA and peewee AA championships Aug. 13 to 16 at Legion Memorial Park.

The St. Albert Cardinals are ranked third at the seven-team Baseball Alberta peewee AAA Tier I championship this weekend in Sherwood Park.
Depending on Friday’s result against the Spruce Grove White Sox (No. 6), the Cardinals play the South Jasper Place Jays (No. 2) or Fort McMurray Oil Giants (No. 7) today at 11 a.m. The score was unavailable at press time.
The Okotoks Dawgs (No. 1), Sherwood Park A’s (No. 4) and Red Deer Braves (No. 5) are also entered.
Sunday’s final is 3 p.m. and the winner advances to the Baseball Canada U13 nationals, Aug. 20 to 24 at Repentigny, Que.

The Cardinals, last year’s provincial champions and fourth-place finishers at nationals, finished third in the provincial round at 17-7 (21-9-1 overall) behind Okotoks at 22-2 (29-2 overall) and the Jays at 17-6-1 (20-6-1 overall).
