The Comets also face-off against SSAC Barbecue Country at 3 p.m. Monday, Strathcona Warriors at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday and Fort St. John Flyers at 3 p.m. Wednesday. The finals are Thursday.

The tournament consists of 14 bantam AA teams and six bantam AAA teams.

At the Christmas break the Comets are the top team in the Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League at 16-2-1 in the metro blue division.

Mathieu Gautier leads the Comets in scoring with 14 goals and 29 points in 19 games.

Ben Brown recorded 20 points in 17 games and Cameron Thomas has 18 points in 19 games.

Ronin Pusch is second in goals with 10 in 19 games.

The last three spots at the 2016 Jiffy Lube Alberta Scotties will be determined at the Northern Alberta Curling Association playdowns next weekend at the St. Albert Curling Club.

The six-team draw features rinks skipped by St. Albert product Karynn Flory of the Avonair, Chana Martineau of the Saville Centre, Jessie Kaufman of the Avonair, Lindsay Makichuk of Lloydminster, Nicky Kaufman of the Avonair and the Karen Stephen foursome of third Nicole Bellamy, second Kristina Hadden and lead Audra Lindsey of the St. Albert Curling Club.

The first of seven draw times is 10 a.m. Jan. 2. The finals are 7 p.m. (A event) Jan. 2, 2:30 p.m. (B event) Jan. 3 and 10 a.m. Jan. 4 (C event). Admission is free.

The provincial championship is Jan. 20 to 24 at the North Hill Curling Club in Calgary and the winner advances to the Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Grande Prairie.

The St. Albert Curling Club is hosting the 2017 Alberta Scotties.

Val Sweeting, the defending champion with Paul Kane High School teacher Lori Olson-Johns at third, Kelsey Rocque of Edmonton, Chelsea Carey of Calgary and Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge have already earned spots at the 2016 provincials.

Shannon Kleibrink, Jodi Marthaller and Nadine Chyz of the Southern Alberta Curling Association and Barb Lund and Trisha James of the Peace Curling Association also qualified in playdown action.
