The St. Albert Stars host the Edmonton Raiders today in the Alberta Football League.
Kickoff is 3 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park.
The Raiders are 2-1 and the Stars are 0-2 after losses of 41-8 to the Central Alberta Buccaneers (3-0) in Lacombe and 48-14 to the AFL champion Calgary Gators (3-0) in St. Albert.
Next Saturday, the Stars are in Airdrie to play the Irish (0-3) at 3 p.m. at Genesis Field.
The Greater Edmonton Junior High 7s Rugby Festival wraps up today at Ellerslie Rugby Park with the Tier 1 female and male tournaments.
The Lorne Akins Gators are represented by the Orange and Blue squads in the seven-team female division and are competing in the six-team male division with the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs.
Games start at 12:15 p.m. and end with the male and female finals at 4:20 and 4:50 p.m.
The Tier 2 male and female tournaments were played Friday at Ellerslie, but results were unavailable at press time. Lorne Akins fielded two female and two male teams.
The St. Albert Crude are winless in six junior B Tier I games when they entertain the Calgary Chill tonight in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League.
Ball drop is 8:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Chill share top spot in the south division at 11-1 and the Crude are 3-9 in the north standings.
The last game for the Crude was Tuesday’s 9-8 loss to the host Fort Saskatchewan Rebels (6-7). A third-period comeback fell short despite outscoring the Rebels 4-2.
Tuesday the Crude travels to Sherwood Park to play the north division-leading Titans (9-3) at 8:30 p.m.
The next senior B game for the St. Albert Miners in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League is Monday against the Beaumont Outlaws.
Start time is 8 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The Outlaws are 2-7 and the Miners are 9-0-1 after their ninth consecutive victory, 7-2 over the Edmonton Warriors (3-5-1) Wednesday at Bill Hunter Arena.
The host team for the Presidents’ Cup national championship, Aug. 29 to Sept. 4 at Leduc Recreation Centre, has five games remaining before the playoffs – three with the Outlaws and two against the Warriors – after Monday’s contest, including three at home.
