The St. Albert Cardinals host the Parkland Twins tonight in the Norwest Midget AAA Baseball League.
First pitch is 7 p.m. at Legion Memorial Park.
The Cardinals (12-2) and Twins (11-4) rank among the top teams in the Norwest standings.
Last year’s silver medallists at the Tier I provincial and U18 Western Canada championships are 17-6-2 overall entering the contest.
The first loss after 12 wins in league play for the Cardinals was 6-0 against the Twins last month.
Thursday the Cardinals play their first game in the Peter Devries Invitational Tournament, hosted by the South Edmonton Elite Baseball Association. Start time is 7 p.m. against SEEBA 1 at John Fry Park.
The Cardinals are up to bat Friday against the Twins at 7 p.m. at Goldstick Park and Saturday at 12 p.m. against the Okotoks Dawgs and 3 p.m. against SEEBA 2 at John Fry.
The final is 12 p.m. Sunday at John Fry.
Tonight’s U23 exhibition between the Edmonton Rugby Union Gold and Lonestar Conference All-Stars kicks-off at 7 p.m. at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club.
The touring lineup of All-Stars consists of players from the 16-team university Lonestar Conference in Texas.
The Gold roster was unavailable at press time.
The first-place St. Albert Impact division 1B and 2A women’s teams have matches scheduled this week at Riel Park in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.
Tonight the division 1B Impact (4-1-3) play the Green & Gold Classics (2-3-1) and Thursday the division 2A Impact (7-1) face Celtic United (2-3-1).
Kickoff times are 7 p.m.
The division 1B Impact are 2-0-2 in their last four matches and the division 2A Impact have won six in a row after Sunday’s 6-0 score against FC Excelsior (2-4-1) at McNally High School. Melanie Seidel and Kate Searle tallied twice and Jessica Royer and Katrina Bonnycastle notched singles. Rene Chattargoon, a U18 trialist, posted the shutout.
The St. Albert Stars tackle the Edmonton Raiders in the Alberta Football League on Saturday at Riel Recreation Park.
Kickoff is 3 p.m. between the winless Stars and the 2-1 Raiders.
Last weekend the Stars lost 41-8 to the Central Alberta Buccaneers (3-0) in Lacombe and the Raiders posted a 14-13 decision against Grande Prairie (0-2).
The season opener for the Stars was the 48-14 loss to the AFL champion Calgary Gators (3-0) in St. Albert.
