The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres and Sherwood Park Flyers face-off today in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Game time is 5:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
Three points separated the Flyers (19-2-1) and Sabres (16-3-4) at the top of the nitro north standings before Friday’s game between the Sabres and Canadian Athletic Club (11-9-2). The score was unavailable at press time.
The teams tied 4-4 Sept. 27 and the Sabres lost 7-3 Nov. 30 but did hand the Flyers their first loss of the season, 5-3 at the NWCAA Invitational Tournament last month in Calgary.
The Sabres play the KC Squires (8-5-7) Monday at 8:30 p.m. at Clareview Arena.
The rosters of past and present St. Albert midget AAA female hockey players have been finalized for the second annual Slash Alumni Event on Monday at Go Auto Arena.
Team Blue is comprised of Jody Sydor, Teagan Rose, Erin Blake, Jessica Dyck, Eliza Snider, Haley Kuzyk, Becky Wall and Lindsay Cox on defence and Karly Heffernan, Sey Shwetz, Micayla Salyn, Sabrina Flemming, Katelyn Epp, Matana Skoye, Jessica Kampjes, Jayden Skoye, Noelle Appleby, Angie Mason and Melissa Kueber as forwards.
Team Gold features Megan Webb, Ashlee Drevant, Abby Ackerman, Lindsay Gillis, Katie Runnalls, Ally Short, Kyrelle Skoye and Rachel Hierlmeier on defence and Breanna Jones, Alyssa Thacker, Danielle Cox, Brooke Tipton, Sophie Robertson, McKenzie Reynolds, Brooke Serdachny, Hannah Paul, Jamie Jones, Rachel Rochet and Jenna Jewell as forwards.
The goalies are Natalie Bender, Hannah Clark and Emily Mitchell and they will each play two periods.
The game starts at 2 p.m., followed by a shootout involving all the players at 3:45 p.m.
The post-game social is 4 to 6 p.m. at Skybox Grill.
Before the game the Slash players will help mentor peewee females during a skills and drills session from 1 to 1:30 p.m. The peewees will then play a mini-game from 1:35 to 1:55 p.m.
Last year’s event brought together players from the inaugural 2004/05 team to the 2014/15 Slash. Team Gold defeated Team Blue 7-3 but the Blues won the shootout.
Meanwhile, the Slash host the Rocky Mountain Raiders tonight for the second day in a row in the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League. Puck drop is 7:45 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
