The St. Albert Junior Cardinals will host the third annual Rainmaker Rodeo Baseball Tournament from May 27 to 29 at Legion Memorial Park.

Eight teams are entered in the tournament. The Cardinals will play the Sherwood Park Athletics at 7:15 p.m. on the 27th. On the 28th they will play the Red Deer Razorbacks at 4:30 p.m.

The bronze medal match will take place at 2 p.m. on the 29th. The gold medal game will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the same evening. Each team has the opportunity to win $100 for every game won. The winners of the gold medal game will receive $350, the silver medallists will get $250 and the bronze medal winner will receive $150.

Metro soccer

The metro Edmonton soccer playoffs are underway with two St. Albert teams competing.

The Bellerose Bulldogs will play against Holy Trinity in the boys’ division two semi-finals on Tuesday.

Kickoff is at 4 p.m. at the NAIT soccer field.

The St. Albert Skyhawks will also take on Holy Trinity in the girls’ division two semi-finals on Tuesday.

Kickoff is at 4 p.m. at Millwoods Park.

Senior B Miners

The Senior B Miners lacrosse team will go up against the Calgary Mountaineers on Sunday at Go Auto Arena.

The action will get started at 12:30 p.m.

Before Friday night’s game against the Beaumont Outlaws, the Miners were sitting at a 2-0-1 record on the season. Mirroring the final standings from last season, the Miners sat in the second place spot over the fourth place Mountaineers. The Miners were coming off a 14-5 win over the Edmonton Warriors before Friday night’s game. The results of Friday’s game were unavailable at press time.

Women’s soccer

Mavericks 09 and the Morinville Ladies hit the pitch to battle it out on Sunday at Forest Park Field.

Kickoff is at 5 p.m.

The Mavericks 09 defeated the Morinville Ladies to become the division one champions in the St. Albert Women’s Soccer League last season. The Mavericks finished the season 16-0 in league play.

The first rematch between the defending champions and the runners-up promises to be an exciting event.
