Today’s doubleheader at the St. Albert Rugby Football Club features teams in the men’s third division and Alberta women’s division one.

Kick off is 2 p.m. between the SARFC thirds (6-3, eight bonus points) and Lep/Tigers (1-7, two BP) in the Edmonton Rugby Union.

The thirds, winners of four of their last five matches, are ranked second in the ERU table, four points back of the first-place Pirates (7-2, eight BP).

At 4 p.m. the SARFC women (0-2, one BP) scrum down against the LTs/Druids (1-1, one BP).

SARFC, last year’s provincial second division champion, finished 7-2 in the ERU spring league to secure a spot in the AW1 fixtures.

The St. Albert Stars host the Lloydminster Vandals today in the Alberta Football League.

Kickoff is 2 p.m. at Riel Recreation Park and admission is $5.

The Stars are 3-2 and the Vandals are 1-4.

Sunday’s premier women’s match between the St. Albert Impact and Ital Canadians/Inter SC/Wolves in the Edmonton District Soccer Association kicks off at 6 p.m. at Riel Park.

The Impact (3-5-4) are 10 points ahead of the last-place Wolves (0-11-1) in the premier table.

Tuesday the Impact and Edmonton Warriors (1-10-2) hook up at 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

The Impact are coming off a 3-1 decision over Dreadnought (3-8-2) Tuesday in Sherwood Park.

Brittany Bowe and Christina Malbrecht, a division 1B callup, opened the scoring and Dreadnought replied before halftime. Kirsten Marshall potted the third goal early in the second half. Youth trialist Tianna Groeneveld was in net.

The second-last match in league play for the St. Albert Rangers is Monday’s division 1A contest against Polonia.

Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Riel Park.

The Rangers (6-3-3) are third and Polonia (1-9-2) is last in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.

The Rangers were 0-2-1 in their last three matches before beating the Edmonton Warriors 3-2 earlier this week despite playing a man short for nearly an hour.

Brent (Irish) Jenkins tied it at one, Oscar Sanchez put the Rangers on top and Gio Morgulis scored the winner with under 10 minutes to play at the ESA Complex.

The win pulled the Rangers to within three points of the Warriors (7-2-3) in the race for second place.

Mike Thompson is the team leader in goals with seven, followed by Marc Tetreau with five.
