A pair of extra-end victories Sunday was highlighted by Koe stealing the winning point in the 10-9 decision against the United States.

Tuesday’s scores against Germany and Russia were unavailable at press time.

Canada plays today against South Korea and 2015 gold medallist Niklas Edlin of Sweden and Thursday against Thomas Ulsrud of Norway, last year’s silver medallist, and Switzerland to close out the 12-team round robin.

The top four teams qualify for the playoffs.

The last time Canada won worlds was Glenn Howard of Ontario in 2012.

Kennedy, 34, and lead Ben Hebert are competing in their third worlds but the first with Koe and second Brent Laing and both are former champions.

Kennedy and Hebert won gold in 2008 and were silver medallists in 2009 curling with Kevin Martin and John Morris.

The fourth annual Donnie MAC Cup fundraiser for Lung Cancer Canada starts 3 p.m. Saturday at the Akinsdale and Kinex arenas.

The hockey tournament has raised about $42,000 to date by players, local businesses and individuals and the goal this year to surpass the $50,000 mark.

Sixty-four players, mostly St. Albert Minor Hockey Association alumni, will be divided into four teams for the two-hour competition.

The fundraiser is held in memory Don MacMillan, a St. Albert resident who died of lung cancer in 2011 at age 61, as well as others affected by the disease.

The St. Albert Storm huddles up Saturday against the Millwoods Grizzlies in midget spring football.

Kickoff is 3 p.m. at Clarke Park.

The Storm is 0-2 and Millwoods is 1-1 in the Capital District Minor Football Association league for players in Grade 9, 10 and 11.

Last weekend, the Storm lost 33-0 to the Battle River Shock (2-0) in Spruce Grove and Millwoods won 15-14 against the Edmonton Mustangs (0-1).

Last year the Storm finished 1-5 overall.
