Admission is free to Friday’s junior B game at Akinsdale Arena with donations to the toy drive and food bank event hosted by St. Albert Merchants.
Fans are asked to bring an unwrapped toy or non-perishable item in support of the St. Albert Kinette Christmas hamper program and St. Albert Food Bank.
Game time is 8 p.m. against the Edmonton Mustangs.
The Merchants will also reveal their new road jerseys donated by Select Equipment Rentals of St. Albert.
Eight points separate the first-place Mustangs (17-4) and fourth-place Merchants (12-8-2) in the west division.
The Merchants edged the Mustangs 3-2 Oct. 11 at Bill Hunter Arena and lost 7-3 Nov. 6 in St. Albert.
The Merchants are 5-6 at home after Friday’s 7-5 loss to the Edmonton Royals (18-4), ranked first in the east standings.
The second goal of the night by Chris Coulombe, the top scorer in the Capital Junior B Hockey League with 34 in 21 games, made it 6-4 at 9:29 of the third period.
Jared Kwasney cut the lead to one 49 seconds later and the Royals deposited the insurance marker with 2:37 to play.
The Merchants closed out the first period with goals by Mason Kenny, Brendan Bow's first of the season and Cam Mazur’s 11th to lead 3-2.
Tyler Mork’s second goal in three games as a Merchant regained the lead at 4-3 in the second.
The Royals replied with a pair in the final 6:01 minutes and the fifth goal was their second on the power play in the period.
Shots were 11-4 Merchants in the third and 29-23 overall. Ty Clelland (10-8, 3.60 GAA) was in net.
The loss was the second in four games while going 6-3-1 in November.
The St. Albert Flyers host the Sherwood Park Squires tonight in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Puck drop is 7:45 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Squires at Akinsdale Arena.
The Flyers (9-4-2) are one-point back of the third-place Squires (10-1-1) in the north division.
The Flyers are 3-1 during their six-game homestand. The team’s November record was 5-2.
The St. Albert Lady Raiders and Edmonton Lightning face-off tonight in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.
The Lightning (8-1-2) are third and the Raiders (4-3-4) are fifth in the north division.
