The Blues and Crusaders have home games scheduled tonight in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League.
The Blues (6-5-2) play the Whitecourt Wolverines (5-5-1) at 7:45 p.m. at Go Auto Arena and the Crusaders (11-2-1) face-off against the Wetaskiwin Ice Kings (0-10) at 8:30 p.m. at Mark Messier Arena.
The Crusaders, ranked first in the Clean Harbors division, are 5-1 in their last six games and the fifth-place Blues in the Investors Group division are 3-1 after beating the Crusaders 6-3 Nov. 4.
Mattias Neset of the Crusaders is the league’s top scorer with 15 goals and 29 points in 14 games.
The Blues are led by Bryce Strum’s 14 goals in 13 games and Brett Mossing’s 12 goals and 13 points in 13 games.
The St. Albert Raiders skate twice this weekend in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.
Today’s north division game in Lloydminster between the first-place Bobcats (12-3) and last-place Raiders (2-13-1) starts at 4:15 p.m.
Sunday the Raiders play the second-place Southside Athletic Club (10-3-3) at 1:15 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena. The Raiders are 1-6 on home ice.
The Raiders are also winless in five games and are 2-7-1 in their last 10 games.
Last weekend against south division teams the Raiders lost 8-2 to the Foothills Bisons (9-5-2) in Strathmore and 6-3 to the host Red Deer Chiefs (12-2-1).
Colin Schmidt leads the Raiders in scoring with 11 goals and 18 points in 16 games.
League play in metro Edmonton co-ed curling ends Tuesday for St. Albert’s high school rinks.
At 4 p.m. at the Jasper Place Curling Club it’s Bellerose 3 (0-4) versus Oscar Romero (3-1), Bellerose 2 (1-3) versus Louis St. Laurent 1 (1-3) and Paul Kane 1 (3-1) versus St. Albert High 2 (4-0) in pool E and in pool F it’s Bellerose 1 (3-0) against Louis St. Laurent 3 (0-2) and Paul Kane 2 (1-1) against St. Albert High 1 (1-2).
The top rinks in the eight pools split between Jasper Place and the Ottewell Curling Club advance to the division one playoffs Dec. 9. The second-place finishers compete in division two and the third-place teams are slotted in division three.
The division finals between the Jasper Place and Ottewell qualifiers are Dec. 16.
League play consists of six ends and in the playoffs it’s eight ends.
