The tournament draw consists of five division 1/2 women’s teams, four division women’s 3A teams, four division 3B women’s teams, six division 4 women’s teams, four co-ed A teams and six co-ed B teams.

The tournament honours one of the initial founders and life member of the St. Albert Soccer Association. Knobloch’s legacy ranged from president to facilities director, in addition to refereeing and coaching the St. Albert Rangers, which he started as a youth team in the mid-1980s.

The Edmonton District Soccer Association Wall of Fame member died June 30, 2010 at the age of 70 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

The Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League regional playoff tournaments start this week for the Blues and Crusaders of St. Albert and the Sturgeon Sting.

The first game for the sixth-place Blues (13-14-5) in the seven-team Investors Group tournament, hosted by the Southside Athletic Club, was Tuesday against the second-place SSAC Don Wheaton (21-5-6) but the score was unavailable at press time.

The Blues play the first-place KC Colts (24-5-3) tonight at 8 p.m. at Terwillegar Community Rec Centre.

The opening game in the six-team Clean Harbors tournament in Morinville is 8 a.m. Thursday between the fourth-place Sting (8-22-2), the host team, and first-place Crusaders (21-8-3), last year’s Fountain Tire Cup playoff finalists in the NAMHL.

Later in the day, the Crusaders face-off against the second-place PAC Saints (14-12-6) at 3:30 p.m. and the Sting skates at 6 p.m. against the third-place Whitecourt Wolverines (11-18-3).

The winners of the two tournaments will meet in the best-of-three metro north conference final March 11 to 13 for the right to compete at the five-team provincials, March 24 to 27, and the best-of-five Fountain Tire Cup, April 1 to 10.

In league scoring, Mattias Neset of the Crusaders finished fifth with 53 points in 31 games and his 22 goals was tops on the team

The Blues were led by Sam Smith-Ackerl’s 32 points in 30 games and Brett Mossing’s 19 goals in 28 games.

Cole Alexis ranked first on the Sting with 13 goals and 25 points in 31 games.
