The St. Albert Impact premier men will be looking for a big win this Thursday as they host the Strikers at Riel Park.

The men are currently in fourth place in the 10-team United Cycle Premier men’s division of the Edmonton and District Soccer Association with a 6-5 record, and will have their work cut out for them to defeat the second-place 9-1-2 Strikers.

It’s a team they can certainly beat, however, having handed the Strikers their only loss of the season in a 3-0 shutout on May 14.

The action starts at 7 p.m.

On the other side of St. Albert’s southern border, the Division 1B Impact men and women will take on the competition at the Edmonton Soccer Association fields in West Edmonton today.

The Impact men, who are in second place with a 6-3-1 record this season, will face the fifth-place AC Milan who are looking to improve their 3-4-3 record. It should be an interesting match, with five of the league’s top 10 scorers on these two teams. St. Albert’s William Backhouse leads the pack with six goals, while Alan Smith and Noah Boyko have five apiece.

The fourth-place Impact will play the fifth-place ASC Heat as they look to improve their record and possibly jump up a spot or two in the standings – they are currently two wins away from second place.

Both games are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

The St. Albert Senior AA Cardinals will host the Sturgeon Paladins in the North Central Alberta Baseball League Thursday evening at Legion park.

The Cardinals have struggled this season, sitting in last place in the 10-team league with a 2-12 record, while the Paladins have had a somewhat better performance with a 6-7 record leaving them in sixth place.

Come July 21, the Cardinals will host all the best players in the league, with the annual All-Star game between the Beverly Optimist All-Stars and the Artslinger All-Stars at 7:15 p.m.

Fountain Park Pool will see all kinds of action this weekend as swimmers from across the region come to St. Albert for the annual Sailfish Swim Meet July 17 and 18.

The club hosts the Region B meet annually in the Alberta Summer Swimming Association competitive schedule, with hundreds of swimmers expected to take part – including very young swimmers and those who have a bit more experience under their belt.

The first heats start at 7 p.m. Friday night.
