The St. Albert Soccer Association kicks off its Ombrelle Active Start Soccer Festival today at 8:30 a.m. at Servus Credit Union Place.
The indoor season windup for the U4, U5, U6 and U8 players consists of 25-minute games in the field houses.
The season finale for the U10 and U12 players begins at 9 a.m. Sunday.
Both days will feature inflatable fun and face painting on court No. 3.
The last game for the St. Albert Skyhawks before the playoffs is Monday against the Edmonton Christian Lions in metro Edmonton division one women’s basketball.
Tipoff is 5 p.m. at the SkyDome.
The playoffs start Feb. 29 for the 10-1 Skyhawks, division one finalists the last two years.
The Skyhawks were 22-6 overall before Friday’s game against the Raymond Comets at the Panther Classic in Spruce Grove. The score was unavailable at press time.
Today the Skyhawks will play the Western Canada Redhawks of Calgary or the Bev Facey Falcons at 9:45 a.m. in the consolation bracket or 1:15 p.m. in the semifinals.
The third-place game is 6:30 p.m. and the final is 8:15 p.m.
The Paul Kane Blues host the Strathcona Lords in Monday’s division one doubleheader in metro Edmonton basketball.
Game times are 5 p.m. for the women and 6:30 p.m. for the men.
The Blues are 8-3 and the Lords are 4-5 in the women’s division and Paul Kane is 2-10 and Strathcona is 5-5 in the men’s division.
The lady Blues are 18-12 overall.
The playoffs tip-off Feb. 29 for the lady Blues.
The Paul Kane men will finish out of the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
League play wraps up next week in St. Albert Physical Education Council junior high basketball.
Tuesday the Lorne Akins Gators host the Richard S. Fowler Falcons and the Morinville Wolves entertain the ESSMY Leopards.
Wednesday the Vincent J. Maloney Marauders visit the William D. Cuts Crusaders and the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs hoop it up at the Elmer S. Gish Warriors.
Game times are 4 p.m. for the boys and 5:30 p.m. for the girls.
The playoffs start Feb. 29. The Tier II final is March 9 at a school to be determined and the Tier I final is March 10 at the SkyDome.
Lorne Akins is the defending girls’ and boys’ champion.
