Special Olympics St. Albert is represented by two teams at the fifth annual floor hockey Invitational tournament today at the Northlands Expo Centre in Hall C. The tournament is hosted by Special Olympics Alberta-Edmonton and consists of 26 teams.

The St. Albert Warriors B/C are in action against the Grande Prairie Storm at 8:30 a.m., Calgary Hitmen at 10:30 a.m. and Calgary Storm at 2:30 p.m.

St. Albert D plays at 8:30 a.m. against the Edmonton Dynamos, 10:30 a.m. against the Edmonton Clashing Dragons and 1:30 p.m. against the Grande Prairie Oilers.

The last game for the St. Albert Merchants before the playoffs is Sunday against the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks.

Puck drop is 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Merchants (22-12-2) were third in the west division and the Hawks (19-14-2) were fourth in the east division before Friday’s home games against the Stony Plain Flyers (11-20-4) in St. Albert and Spruce Grove Regals (5-28-2) in Fort Saskatchewan. Scores were unavailable at press time.

The best-of-three preliminary round in the Capital Junior B Hockey League starts next weekend and Merchants will host the Flyers or Morinville Jets (15-19-3) in Friday’s series opener.

The St. Albert Lady Raiders continue their six-game homestand in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League this weekend at Go Auto Arena.

The Raiders skate tonight against the Sherwood Park Royals at 7:45 p.m. and Sunday against the PAC Saints at 1:30 p.m.

Seven points separate the second-place Royals (15-5-3) and fifth-place Raiders (11-6-4) in the north division. The Saints (1-23-1) are sixth as the bottom team.

The last game for the Raiders was the 4-0 loss to the Royals in St. Albert.

The team’s record in January was 3-2.

The final home game of the season for the St. Albert Raiders is Sunday against the Foothills Bisons in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.

Faceoff is 2:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

The Raiders (6-21-3) are 3-10-1 on home ice.

Today at 5:45 p.m. the Raiders play the Maple Leafs at Bill Hunter Arena.

The Raiders are one point ahead of the last-place KC Pats (4-21-6) with a game in hand in the north standings after going 2-3-1 in January.

League play ends next weekend for the Raiders with two games in Calgary.
