The Crusaders and Blues are back on the ice today in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League.
The Crusaders (14-5-2) play the Wainwright Polar Kings (8-7-4) at 2:15 p.m. at Go Auto Arena and the Blues (10-6-3) have a date with the Lloydminster Blazers (10-2-6) in the Border City at 3:45 p.m.
The Blues also host the Beaumont Braves (14-4) at 8:15 p.m. Sunday at Go Auto Arena and SSAC Lakewood Chevrolet (11-8-2) at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Mark Messier Arena.
After the Christmas break the Blues are fifth in the Investors Group division and the Crusaders, the 2015 Fountain Cup playoff finalists, are first in the Clean Harbors division.
Last month in league play, the Crusaders finished 2-2-1 and the Blues were 3-1-1.
Brett Mossing leads the Blues in scoring with 15 goals and 22 points in 19 games.
Mattias Neset of the Crusaders is tied for second in league scoring with 36 points in 21 games and is second in goals with 17.
The St. Albert Merchants are back in business Sunday in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
Faceoff is 8 p.m. against the Edmonton Royals at Confederation Arena.
At the Christmas break, the Merchants (15-10-2) ranked fourth in the west division and the Royals (22-5) are the CJHL’s top team as the east division leaders.
High school basketball returns to the court next week after the Christmas break for the Bellerose Bulldogs, Paul Kane Blues and St. Albert Skyhawks in the metro Edmonton senior divisions.
Monday the Bulldogs (0-4) host the Leduc Tigers (1-3) and the M.E. Lazerte Voyageurs (2-2) visit Paul Kane (0-3) in division one men’s action. Tipoff times are 5 p.m.
The lady Skyhawks (2-1) and Spruce Grove Panthers (4-0) hoop it up Monday at 5 p.m. at the SkyDome. The Panthers defeated the Skyhawks in the last two metro division one finals.
Tuesday’s division two pool B contests start at 5 p.m. between the lady Bulldogs (1-1) and Sturgeon Spirits (1-1) in Namao and the Sturgeon men (0-3) and Skyhawks (1-1) at the SkyDome.
Wednesday’s division one doubleheader at Paul Kane kicks off at 5 p.m. for the men’s team against the Holy Trinity Trojans (3-1), followed by the lady Blues (2-1) and St. Joseph Saints (0-3) at 6:30 p.m.
The Bellerose men also entertain the O’Leary Spartans (3-0) Wednesday at 5 p.m.
