The Flyers (18-3-5) are 4-0-1 in January and in the north standings they trail the second-place Sherwood Park Squires (19-5-4) by one point with two games in hand.

The St. Albert Lady Raiders host the Southeast Tigers of Medicine Hat tonight in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League.

Puck drop is 7:45 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

The Raiders (8-8-1) were tied with the Spruce Grove PAC Saints (6-7-5) for last place in the north division before Friday’s home game against the Sherwood Park Royals (10-5-4). The score was unavailable at press time.

Don McKenzie, one of the inaugural six inductees into the St. Albert Curling Club’s wall of fame, is the second for Brad Hannah’s rink from the Saville Centre.

The three-time Alberta men’s champion, two-time Brier winner and 1989 world gold medallist with the Ryan Express curled on Hannah’s provincial senior championship team that lost the 2011 Canadian final with current rinkmates’ Gary Greening and Lance Dealy.

Dan Holowaychuk, another St. Albert wall of fame inductee, is the second for Wade White’s rink from the Saville Centre.

Doug McLennan is the third for Glen Hansen’s rink from Hinton.

The Hansen foursome competed in the men’s playdowns last weekend in Camrose and finished 4-3. All three losses were against event winners: James Pahl of Strathcona, Jamie King of St. Albert and Jessi Wilkinson of Ellerslie.

Two years ago White’s lineup of McLennan, Holowaychuk and George Parsons, the second for Hansen, won the provincial senior title and finished third at nationals.

Provincials start Feb. 11 at Medicine Hat.

The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres return to league play Monday after hosting the John Reid Memorial Tournament.

Faceoff is 7 p.m. against the KC Squires (4-21-3) at Bill Hunter Arena.

The Sabres (12-12-4) are winless in three games and the team’s January record is 1-4.

The Sabres finished 2-3 as the C finalists at the Reid tournament.
