The 34th annual Mac’s hockey tournament in Calgary is underway for St. Albert’s midget AAA teams.
Monday the Raiders beat the Vancouver NE Chiefs 4-1. Josh Jewell, Tyler Dea, Luc Lalor and Thomas Foster scored and Trace Elson added two assists. Shots were 38-27 for the Raiders as Wyatt Hoflin earned the win in net. Lalor was selected the team’s player of the game.

Today at 5:15 p.m. the Raiders play the Calgary Royals at Father David Bauer Arena.
The last game in pool play is Thursday against the Valley West (B.C.) Hawks at 9 a.m. at Max Bell Arena.
The top teams in the five pools and three wild cards in the 25-team draw make the playoffs. The quarter-finals and semifinals go Saturday and the final is Jan. 1 at 6 p.m. at the Saddledome.
In the female division Monday the Slash tied the Medicine Hat Tigers 2-2. It was 2-0 for the Tigers when Ashley Morin scored in the first period. Jessica Kampjes fired the equalizer in the third. Emily Mitchell was the Slash player of the game with 30 saves. The Slash were credited with 16 shots on goal.
Round-robin action at Max Bell Arena continues today at 3:30 p.m. against the Prince Albert Bears.
Thursday’s game against the Thompson-Okanagan Rockets starts at 10:30 a.m.
Friday the Slash and Calgary Flyers hook up at 6 p.m.
In the 15-team draw the first-place teams in the three pools and one wild card team qualify for Saturday’s semifinals. The final is Jan. 1 at 2 p.m. at Max Bell Arena.

The annual St. Albert Christmas Tournament for novice and atom teams wraps up Thursday at Performance Arena.
The finals are 4:15 p.m. for novice 1, 5:45 p.m. for novice 2 and 7:15 p.m. for the atoms.
Competing in the novice 1 division are the Havoc, Ice Devils, Saints, Hawks, Spitfires and NC1501.
The novice 2 division features the Cobras, Devastators, Comets, Chargers, Sharp Shooters and Scorpions.
The atom teams include the Thunder, Sting, Strike Force, Lightning, Vipers, Blades, Hitmen, Stealth, Saints, Chargers, Sturgeon and Morinville.

The St. Albert Sabres return to the ice after the holiday break on Jan. 4 against the Spruce Grove Saints in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.
Faceoff is 7:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The Sabres (14-4-5) are ranked third in the nitro north standings after going 5-1-2 in December. The host team for the John Reid Memorial Tournament trails the first-place SSAC Southgate Lions (19-2-2) by seven points.
