The St. Albert Merchants and Morinville Jets exchange holiday greetings Sunday in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.
The festivities start at 8 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
In the west division the fourth-place Merchants (12-9-4) defeated the first-place Jets (16-7-2) twice in three games this season.
In league play Wednesday the Merchants lost 6-5 in overtime to the Edmonton Royals (19-5-2) at Kenilworth Arena.
Friday’s score between the Merchants and Stony Plain Flyers (1-22-2) was unavailable at press time.
The St. Albert Steel play the Fort McMurray Oil Barons three times in five days before the Christmas break in the Alberta Junior Hockey League.
The teams skate twice in Fort McMurray this weekend before the Oil Barons (28-4-3) visit Performance Arena on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
The 13th loss in 14 games for the last-place Steel (6-30-2) was 6-1 against the AJHL champion Spruce Saints (30-2-6) Wednesday at Grant Fuhr Arena.
Steel centre Bryce Sauers opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season.
Rhys Hadfield surrendered five goals on 24 shots before the only 20-year-old on the Steel roster was replaced by Tanner Kovacs at 7:08 in the second period. Shots were 19-4 in the first and 49-17 overall for the Saints, ranked second overall in the Canadian Junior Hockey League.
The St. Albert Flyers and the Leduc Oil Kings hook up tonight in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.
Faceoff is 7:45 p.m. at the Leduc Recreation Centre.
In the north conference the second-place Flyers (11-4-4) are winless in three games. Leduc (10-6-1) is fifth overall.
Last weekend the Flyers settled for a 3-3 draw after CAC United Cycle scored three times late in the game, including goals 19 seconds apart in the last minute of play at Callingwood Arena.
Brett Smythe tallied twice and assisted on Paul Lovsin’s goal in the first period. Patrick Gora stopped 30 shots.
Lovsin is the top scorer in the conference with 32 points in 18 games. Gora (5-2-3, 2.31 GAA) leads all netminders with three shutouts.
The St. Albert Raiders close out their December schedule in the Alberta Major Bantam Female Hockey League tonight against the Sherwood Park Royals.
Game time is 7 p.m. at the Sherwood Park Sports Centre.
The Raiders (12-2-3) lead the league with 27 points. The Royals (1-11-2) are last in the north standings.
The last win by the Raiders was 2-0 against the Calgary Rangers (7-7-2) recently in St. Albert. Natalie Bender (6-1, 2.02 GAA) posted the shutout with 20 saves. Megan Lalor and Kennedy Newton supplied the offence.
