The St. Albert Raiders have five games remaining at Akinsdale Arena as they prepare for the Mac’s AAA hockey tournament starting Dec. 26 in Calgary.

Last year at the Mac’s the Raiders finished 2-2 in pool play after going 0-3-1 the previous year.

The Raiders’ homestand kicks off tonight at 8 p.m. against the Maple Leafs (3-13-3). Sunday’s puck drop is 1:15 p.m. against the Southside Athletic Club (8-7-4).

The Raiders are 4-5-1 in their last 10 games.

In the north division the Raiders (13-5-2) are second overall behind the Leduc Oil Kings (15-4-1), the host team for the Telus Cup national championship in April.

The St. Albert Blues can extend their winning streak to three games with a victory today against the Wainwright Polar Kings in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League. Game time is 3:30 p.m. at Mark Messier Arena.

The Blues (11-3-2) moved into a first-place tie with the KC Colts (11-4-2) in the central red division after Tuesday’s 5-4 win over the Strathcona Warriors (6-9-2) in St. Albert.

Blair Macuch’s second goal of the night, a power-play effort in the third period, was the game winner. Chase Mustus, Calvyn Reith and Jared Kwasney also scored and Ryker Moreau added two assists. Mitchel Vigneau stopped 43 shots for the 2011 league finalists and provincial silver medallists.

The St. Albert Flyers visit CAC United Cycle tonight in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League. Faceoff is 7:30 p.m. at Callingwood Recreation Centre.

The Flyers (12-3-3) trail the first-place Lloydminster Rage (14-3) by one point in the north conference.

Sunday’s 3-1 loss in Lloydminster ended the Flyers’ eight-game undefeated streak. The Rage scored twice in the first period before Matt Havens cut the lead in half in the second. The Rage outshot the Flyers 36-25. In net was Pat Gora.

The Metro Edmonton high school basketball season is underway for St. Albert’s senior teams in the premier and city conferences.
